NO WAY!!! ITS JUST A WAY FOR CHRISTIANS TO TRY TO JUSTIFY THEIR BELIEFS...AS YOU WILL NOTICE AS TIME HAS GONE BY THEY CHANGE WHAT IS WRITTEN TO ACCOMODATE THE WAY THE WORLD IS GROWING AND ADVANCING...EVOLUTION AND GOD CANNOT CO-EXIST, PERIOD. THE BIBLE ONCE SAID SLAVERY WAS OK...BUT NOW THAT WE ALL KNOW ITS WRONG IT IS NOT USED ANYMORE. EITHER THE BIBLE IS THE TRUE WORD OF GOD OR IT ISN'T.

If evolution is a process used by God, do we need the God described in the bible? I think that's really the fear that if you relegate God to the role of lighting the candles on the birthday cake we call life then maybe we'll start worshiping golden calves again. Or maybe people will doubt that God can condemn them to an eternity in hell as punishment for whacking off (not really trying to be funny but Christian churches do seem to have some odd ideas of what constitutes a mortal sin). Basically if your god is "the god of the unknown" you *may* begrudge scientists their work because every time they push their envelope your god gets smaller. So, maybe evolution is a tool of a god. Maybe a lot of science is. It's really only man's image of god that seems to be stuck and inflexible.
I think the whole business about "made in his image" is clearly the humans attempt to make god something *they* could understand. If dolphins wrote the bible, God would look like a dolphin, that's just what happens when real creatures imagine gods.
Note: no gods were harmed in the formation of this opinion.

Actually, the "let's make man in our image" refers to several abilities:
the ability to reason upon the ideas of right and wrong (not just to know what these are)
the need to pursue a spiritual side of life
and the free will to choose.
Animals only have instincts and the ability to be taught. Right and wrong is determined by the pain and pleasure reactions they receive from any given action. And, as of yet, there has been no hard documented evidence that suggests that animals pursue any sort of spiritual endeavors.
Genesis 1:25 says God made each animal "according to their kinds" even going so far as to differentiate between those He made to be "wild" animals and those He made to be "domestic" animals. So, if you go by what the bible says literally, He made each animal without the use of evolution--each kind was made in it's own creative process. Thus, God did not use evolution. Why would He need to? If He wanted an animal to look like a Giraffe, He has all the power He needs to make it "just so" right from the start.

How come every time a person asks a question about God using evolution and every other 'natural' process, all anyone can reply with is remarks about Christianity and the Bible? You can believe in God without believing in any man-made religion. I do.

That is a very good question, actually. Everything that happens, as I believe, God already knew about it forever. God knows the future, in other words.
My best answer is that (since I am not a fundamentalist) possibly the place in the Bible that says that, was only the human perception of the time. The Bible was only inspired by God, so it cannot be perfect, especially since humans wrote it, and nothing involving humans can be perfect.
I hope this makes sense, and I hope I'm not insulting the Bible either. I was just saying that the person who wrote that did not see the future.

Why would God bother with a drawn out process like evolution? It wouldn't even qualify as an experiment for a omniscient being who already knew the outcome.
Your first instincts were correct: evolution proves there is no God. Why do you think Christians hate it so much?

Man (tho said to be inspired by God) wrote the bible, so then it is man who said "in his image", but you may be thinking physical, when it is intended as spiritual image. Can a cat, dog, or primate achieve a "spiritual feeling?" I personally see the "big picture" of many of mans spiritual belief systems, and take what I want out of each, and discard the rest. Sometimes, I believe that "Religion" is as much an enemy to man, as it is a benefit !

I would believe the Bible side because it's true. Other animals can have the same characteristics that we humans have, such as emotion, but we are still the higher form. BTW: I'm not trying to preach to you, but if not understanding "the way" is holding you back from being a Christian, let me just say this. I'm asking you to only think about it: (1) You must realize that you are a sinner and lost (at this time, you don't have the Lord Jesus Christ living in your heart). (2) Pray a prayer, when you sincerely mean it, similar to this: "Lord, I realize that I'm lost and that I need you in my life. I want to be in Heaven, when I die, for all eternity, with you. Please come into my life right now. I trust you, and thank you for loving me enough to want to live in my heart and to die for me. Amen."

The bible says a lot of things.
Not too many that can stand up to a bit of simple logic though.
You, Me and the rest of the creation all exist as parts of God. There is no line where God stops and something else starts. All of it is of God.
God picks no favorites, he/she loves all of creation equally.
Love and blessings Don

we haven't been as smart as we are for a very long time
think about it that way
and other animals are far superior then us in many different ways and again some animals especially our close friends the chimpanzees and gorillas are pretty darn smart
they have been able to learn over 1000 sign words and fully understand their meaning able to constuct questions and self directed conversation
scientist believe if they were biologically able to speak they would or rather could.
