if i were to use my friend orginial cd key to install OS onto my desktop.will anything happen to either or us?and can i still dowload updates?

i should work. but i would rather not use it. its safe to buy the new key.

It isn't supposed to work! Sooner or later XP connects to a Microsoft server to "activate" itself by checking that some other dweeb hasn't already activated it. They'll send goons and lawyers out to make your life miserable if it isn't already.
