Why are sharks such efficient hunters? Evolution doesn't leave room to do more than the minimum for survival.

Not sure I understand your question, because it makes the assumption that humans are unnecessarily smart.
Define what this means and maybe we can answer the question.
Evolution is not about what works, it's about changes in a species over time and the theory that changes favoring the species will continue on while changes that do not will eventually become recessive or die out completely. That doesn't mean that a species might evolve a fantastically great feature such as high intelligence. Nowhere does the theory of evolution state that feature changes over time will only happen in such a way as to provide only necessary improvements.

What do you think would be the limit to human intelligence? Are you saying intelligence *doesn't* work? Should humans have evolved to a certain point, and have brains that were incapable of understanding calculus? There are certain genes currently proposed to be connected with intelligence (always a tricky and dangerous area to discuss) that are increasing in the human population.
What is unnecessary about their intelligence? This is a very dangerous and revealing opinion. I don't believe any of my intelligence is unnecessary, and I wouldn't mind more!
If intelligence works versus stupidity, we would assume that people would be "unnecessarily" smart. However, these are assumptions. (I don't personally see "unnecessarily smart" humans. If we have something in place which allows stupid ones to survive and reproduce effortlessly because of the collective efforts of others, then we would have many "unnecessarily" stupid humans.)

Actually, that is an interesting question. I think it was associated with the development of language, which was an advantage in terms of communication. Since humans can only survive if they form cooperative groups, then there is an advantage to those groups with individuals who have better communication skills because they can organize better and accomplish more than groups whose individual members do not really know, or are not sure of, what other members are doing.
Once our ancestors became able to use words to symbolically represent things, it opened the door to abstract thought, creativity, inventiveness - and worry, uncertainty, and fear (especially of the unknown and unpredictable). I don’t think you can have complex symbolic communication without all that other stuff being part of the same package.
Therefore, it is no mystery that our brains function in ways where the connection to mere survival is not readily apparent. It would be more of a mystery if they did not.

Humans evolved to the point that we are at millions of years ago, and if the evolutionists have it right than it would have to be correct that we only evolve to what we need to adapt to our surroundings and habitat, so we were at one point super intelligent and then something happened. We were destroyed and lost almost all of our population and technology. Think of how dumb people would get now if we lost computers and 99% of our population, if you have ever heard of the human genome project where they mapped the human DNA? You know how they can use DNA to see who your relatives are, well if you also understand math you would know that there could only be so many possible combinations of DNA before we ran out, right? so they ran a sequence backwards on supercomputers to find out how many of us cam from the same gene pool, the number was around 5000, so there had to of been, religious or not a family that had to repopulate the world at one point, that being said it supports the theory for my answer to your question, that we evolved to this point got really smart something really bad happened and we all got dumb because we lost so many people and technological resources, and we are now only getting smarter.......But that same thing will happen again someday

Obviously, this knowledge provided a survival advantage to the cultures possessing it. Everything you discussed has application to warfare.
Not all human evolution is biological; some is cultural. Ideas are passed down by communication, not just instinct. This helped hunters on the African plains hundreds of thousands of years ago, as much as now. Of course, since then, we've added writing and printing to our tools. (The Internet takes it to a new level whose implications are yet to be assessed.)

As our lives have been made less difficult through the use of tools our brains have developed to take on higher forms of cognitive processes. There is also a belief that during our primitive stage of development a mutation may have been caused by psychedelic plants. I am not too sure about that though.

You are correct what works is what survives. Where did you ever come up with the idea that humans are too smart? If we were so smart we would not be destroying our own place to live.
No I do not agree with you on that one.

Because thats the vacant niche that could be filled. And btw, you call humans smart? You have to be kidding. Look at the things we do to each other. Does that seem smart to you? Wild animals often show more brains than human beings do.

Ask any of the primates if they wouldn't really rather be doing what we do and choosing whether of not to experiment on us! Smart works too well in some respects, now we have to get even smarter to control our population and manipulate or own DNA to control our destiny.
Pass the bananas.
