I've grown up in a Christian home and I know God is real. I believe it all. The problem: I am having a hard time starting a relationship with Him. He feels so far away. I think it's because I've blown it so many times. What do I need to do?
Please help me!!!

Read the Bible. The Book of Romans is where my relationship with God was induced, but maybe you should start with the Gospels and read through the New Testament.

That and pray...You don't need to get on your knees and cuff your hands, just in your mind ask the Lord to reveal Himself. Pray about everything in your life. The more you pray, the more you'll sense His presence in your life.

You need to realize that God is not far away. Jesus told us that the kingdom of the father is within us.

This means that God is not on some far off cloud called heaven, nor is He to be found in a building called a church.

He is right where brother Jesus predicted he would be.

Don't be so sure that you have blown it so many times. The real God is unconditionally loving and never judges you actions in any way.

God knows more about you than you know about your self.

Remember who made you. Is your theory that God is incompetent and made you faulty?

I don't think so. God made you perfect and sees you as still being as perfect as the day that you were born. Any other idea is just nonsense that people make up about God.

Love and blessings Don

PS. There is a book that cuts through a lot of the conflicting things that religion has to say about God. Its sole purpose is to assist you in forming a permanent unbreakable connection with God. It is called the course in miracles. Try it Andria It works. Email If you think you want more info.

I also grew up in a christian home and i have always have very strong faith. But for the past couple of months, I have been feeling very alone and like God does not want me anymore. I suffer from deppression and anxiety, so it is the times like these when you really need God the most. I try my hardest to just pray and ask for forgiveness and that God will help me to get through it and that it will make my faith stronger. I can truely empathise and i really hope that you get through this and can have a close and intimate relationship with God and our saviour Jesus.

Honey, you already do have a relationship with God. You need to believe that. It sounds like you doubt it because you've blown it so many times, as you said. Don't doubt God's love for you. Trust in it and you will feel it. Pray, talk, read. Do you go to church? It does help to be around others who share your beliefs. All of these things will bring you closer to God. I wish you all the best! God Bless and Merry Christmas.

I, like you, have grown up in a Christian home. I fell into some pretty deep stuff and lost my way. He feels far away because you're lost. When I was going through my problems I felt void of his love. I thought he had abandoned me. I thought I was being punished for hanging with Satan worshipers and such. I found Wicca during that time, but my convictions were so strong I could not stray from what I knew and that was that God loved me. Wicca opened my eyes to that. I realized it wasn't a religion that is glorified on t.v. or the movies. It's about who you are as a person. I realized that it wasn't God I lost, but myself. I tuned him out. He was with me all along. Like the poem "Footprints". What hurt me was the Fundamental Christian beliefs we are all raised to believe in. It's all wrong. I was taught that when you stray, you better beg for God's forgiveness. God is not this way at all. I've studied Wicca, Budhism, and Christianity. I realized one thing...God loves us because we are his children. And as with any parent, yes he gets upset, but he never chastises us. As long as we regret the things we do and try to improve our lives he is there for us. We are the ones who push him away. What you need to do is meditate. In a quite place and start creating a relationship with him that is special to you. Drop any commercialized beliefs you have. God loves you, accepts you, and is always there for you. You just have to be willing to turn your life over to his will. Understand that whatever is around the corner is what he feels you need at the time, bad or good. It's made to make you a better person, to grow into the enlightened being he desires you to be. I hope this helps.

Moroni 10:4-5 "I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you by the power of the Holy Ghost. And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things." How do you develope a relationship with God? Pray! Read the scritures! Go to church! Never give up. Religion is not a crutch, as many athiests believe. Religion is a sword to help us fight against the evils of the world and bring peace and happiness. I am a Mormon (Mormon is what they call members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Note the name "Jesus Christ" in the name of the church, therefore, we are Christian.)

Here are lyrics to a song by Hilary Weeks:
He knows your heart
He knows your pain
He knows the strength it took just too simply breathe today
He sees the tears that you cry
He knows your soul is aching to know why
He hears your prayers each humble word
When you said you couldn’t face another day he understood
He knows the path that you will find
Though you felt alone he’s never left your side

Chorus:
He knew there’d be moments when no earthly words
Could take away your sorrow
And no human eyes could see what you’re going through
When you’ve taken your last step and done all that you can do
He will lift your heavy load and carry you

He’ll bring you peace and leave you hope
And in the darkest night he’ll comfort you
Until you know the sun will rise and each new day
You will have the strength to live again

Chorus:
And when there are moments when no earthly words
can take away your sorrow
And no human eyes could see what you’re going through
When you’ve taken your last step and done all that you can do
He will lift your heavy load and carry you

He hears you when you’re crying in the night
He hears you when your soul longs to find
Till the morning will come
And the light of the dawn reassures

Chorus:
That in the moments when no earthly words
can take away your sorrow
And no human eyes could see what you’re going through
When you’ve taken your last step and done all that you can do
He will lift your heavy load and carry you

Here are more:
Be Still

Another day
I'll try again
But can you tell me
Will the hurting ever end?

I've been taught
And I believe
But it's been awhile
Since I've been on my knees

But I need you by my side
I don't have the strength
To make it on my own
And Lord, do you hear my prayer
How soon will you answer me?

I know you're weary
I know you've had all you can bear
And now you ask of me on bended knee
I promise I'll be there

I've watched you struggle
Yet I can see how much you've grown
Child, could you feel my power in your darkest hour?
You were not alone

Be still and know that I am God
I'm by your side
Whom shall you fear
I'll give you strength my child
I am here
Be still and know that I am God
And there's no prayer
That I don't hear
Lift up your head
My child
I am here

And Finally here are more (I think these last ones go the best with your Question):
Sometimes it feels like I am miles away
And I haven't even left my home.
Seems like I've wandered to a distant place,
And I'm here all alone.
I used to feel You in my life
I used to feel You
I used to feel

Chorus:
I want to be closer to You
I need Your love
I won't take even one more step
Unless it brings me
Closer.

I've been so caught up in the day today.
There've been so many times
I took Your light for granted and I lost my way
but now I realize
I need You near my sight
I need You near me
I need You

Chorus:
I want to be closer to You
I need Your love
I won't take even one more step
Unless it brings me

Closer to You.
Close enough to reach out and touch Heaven
With nothing between
You and Me.

I want to be closer to You
I need Your love
I won't take even one more step
Unless it brings me
Closer.

i'm sorry that my answer is a bit long but i hope i helped you. i recommend these songs and more by Hilary Weeks. I also recommend Sharon Hopkins.

It may help to look within yourself first. Start by choosing a church where you are free to explore your own Spirituality, rather than putting emphasis on religion. I've raised my children in the Unitarian Universalist Church, where they are able to explore several religions and grow Spiritually within themselves. You already have the foundation of Christianity, so finding the support of a church which allows you to grow from within, will help you form your own personal relationship with God.

I think once you've experienced the beauty of growing Spiritually from the inside out, your relationship with God will come very naturally.

Remember, there are many religions which are created by man to fulfill a spiritual need and they are all under the same God which is known by many names.

Dear, you have not blown it with God. We do not earn his love. He loves us unconditionally. Talk to God, just as you talk with us or a friend. Tell him that you know in your head what you have been taught. Admit that your faith has been taught to you throughout your childhood but that you need to find a personal and intimate relationship with God for yourself. Tell him how you feel. Ask him to work in your life and I guarantee you dear, he will show himself. Follow him. Remember that God will work through people, places and things as well as through your inner voice. You are going to see many wonderful things when you make this faith your own. You are on the right path, this is part of your way to God. Peace & Love to you Sister in Christ.

Read the 10 Commandments and seriously look at your life and see how many times you have broken them in either word, thought, or deed. Remember that Jesus equates lusting after someone equal to adultery. And hating someone as committing murder. God knows your heart. God sees your conscience and knows beyond a shadow of a doubt if you truly are sorry for your sins. Remember how loving God is to become a man in the flesh as Jesus and suffered greatly on the cross for all of the sins you've committed against Him. Remember that Jesus is the only way to be made righteous before God on Judgment Day. Repent of your sins (don't just apologize, but turn away from those sins) and trust Jesus to save you.

stop judging yourself so harshly, God, Goddes, Spirit All that is, the Source...whatever you wish to name it doesnt need to forgive you because you were never judged in the first place...what you are missing is an experience...many find it in song, (nothing like a good choir to get the juices flowing) art, anything that brings joy, while harming neither others or your self...look within and see that part of God that is in you and celebrate it...let your new self esteem be the way you interact with God on a daily basis...and simply above all just pray...start talking, show up consistently every day for God and in perfect honor He, She It will be there.be well, be loved and blessed be _B
