our lab is about 10-11 months old, so yeah, he's still a pup, but he KNOWS to go outside when he has to potty. he will wake me up at night if he needs to go out.
the thing is, if he gets excited, like tonight, a repairman came to look at the freezer and my husband put him in our bedroom. i caught him standing on our bed peeing.
then, one night we had a bunch of friends over for dinner and their kids were running around playing with the dog and he wouldn't tell us he had to go out, so he'd just stop playing and pee all over the floor!!!

is this just him being a puppy??
could he have some sort of bladder problem??
could he be peeing b/c he gets mad at us or is just excited and distracted??

thanks!

I had a dog that did that same thing while he was a puppy, and it's really nothing to worry about. What you could do to help prevent it is to just make sure that he does go out often when he gets excited or is in situations like the ones you described (mainly when there are people in the house who are unfamiliar). When you are expecting company, it would probably be a good idea to also bring him outside before they arrive and make sure he goes before he is allowed back in.

Urinating is a way of marking territory, a sign of submission and\or excitement.

When someone new comes into your home, tell them not to look at or interact with the dog immediately so that the dog has a chance to calm down. If necessary, keep the dog next to you with a sit and stay command.

A word of advice... once a dog, or cat, has urinated somewhere in the house, it is imperative that you blot up the excess urine and then clean the spot or article with an enzyme cleaner specifically for pet stains.

Why?

Because even if you can't smell it, a dog or cat might still be able to and if they do, they will urinate in the same spot again.

NEVER beat or hit an animal for urinating in the house. You will only make it fear you and possibly become a biter in self-defense.

The puppy may be peeing because he is mad at you but that relay depends on were he pees if he pees while you are petting him it is most likely excitement. to stop it. when he pees stop petting him and tell him No bad dog in a firm stern voice. then move his head near the pee and say again no bad dog and put him on time out. he will soon relive that his actions are not acceptable and begin to con troll them to make you happy.

This is common but after 18 months if he is still doing it i suggest some doggie training in that area. But peeing on the bed is a no no.. and i would let him know.. That's not cool but you don't need to hit him but you can sure raise your voice..You sound like great parents...Good luck

I know grown humans that still piss themselves silly when they get excited or angry, so your dog aint that bad as a puppy.
