OK, I tattoo for a living so have a good idea of the pain of tattoos. Yes they hurt, are they going to kill you from the pain, no. Most of it is in your head. People will come in all worked up and nerves and then end up passing out or throwing up. Just relax and go with it, once your endorphines kick in it's pretty smooth sailing. But like some have said it depends on the body part the tattoo is going. Ribs, neck, feet, centers of the back are generally the most painful areas but still due able.

I think some people try to freak you out! They hurt like an indian burn. Painfull is labor, breaking bones or loosing a loved one. If you are thinking of getting one make sure it's what you want and represents who you are. The mind is a very powerful thing. Some people deal with pain differently. I absorb it ......

Tattoos on spots near the bone hurt a bit more than ones that are on a fleshy part of your body. An ankle tattoo for example could send mini shockwaves up your leg (i know as I've got one!) but it's not overtly painful, it's more unpleasant than anything.

It really depends on your pain threshold, different people feel different levels of pain, so what may feel like a kitten licking my tattoo on could be excruciating for you!

Honestly, I was expecting much, much worse.

But that don't mean that they don't hurt at all, they do a little bit....
Actually I would compare it to a kitty repeatedly scratching your skin ;)

At first it's pretty much ok, but if the guy has to stay on the same spot for a long time then it's going to start being real unconfortable LOL

it depends on where you get the tattoo and if you have high tolerance for pain or not. i have a high tolerance for pain and i have one on my right shoulder/upper back that didn't hurt me at all. but i also have one right under the ankle bone on the inside of my foot, it hurt while she was doing the outline but by the time she was filling the color in i had gotten use to the pain. it only hurts for a little bit. if its something important to you, it'll be worth it.

Think of tattooing as a small sewing machine like device going over the drawn design over you body, and you get the picture.

I have 5 and yes they are painful in the beginning, but they do however numb after a few minutes. It's a unique experience that literally lasts a lifetime. Go for it.

To me it feels like a constant burning cat scratch. It is a very irritating pain. Some places hurt a lot more than others.

it does not depend on the tattoo like alot of people tell u it depends on the needle and how fast it is going the faster it goes the more painful it is. and the slow one hurts but then they all hurt but the fast one hurts more

To me it was just an annoying feeling and I have a low pain tolerence.I think whether its painful is all about u as a person...what your pain tolerence is and how worked up u get.
