Pure Energy XL alkaline rechargeable AAA batteries purchased recently don't fit in a 15 year old Dynacharge XP battery charger . Also bought Duracell 900 NiMH batteries that are also too big by about a milimeter. What's up with this? It's been years since I've purchased batteries.

I think the answer to this question is no, the batteries have not changed size over the years. Make sure you are trying to fit the correct battery type. If there are springs inside the battery holder, these may have become distorted and no longer accommodate the battery properly.

absolutely.... I have seen several sizes over the last 6-7 years. I believe as a result of the internet market manufacturing and distribution channels have changed dramatically and there are simply MORE choices and LESS quality control. increased competition with no increase in regulation probably has even eveready and duracell purchasing from a variety of sources where in the past they had more control over the manufacturing process. I imagine they buy the same items from Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, China, Malaysia but the mfg. varies.
