I just started using a memory foam liner on top of my regular mattress and my back is 100% better. Absolutely no more back pain. So what exactly is this memory foam stuff and how does it work? How is it different than just regular foam? All seems very mysterious, but somehow, it works.

Memory Foam is a form fitting cushion the molds itself to the person sleeping on it. I helps you because it provides an equal cushion underneath you. A normal spring mattress doesn't match all the bumps and hollows on your back, like from your shoulders or where your back arches. The memory foam will provide an equal support over those areas and it will depress itself to match those areas. You can get a similar feeling from a water bed, along with the sloshing.

According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memory_foam
"Memory foam is made from polyurethane with additional chemicals that add to its viscosity level, thereby increasing the density of the foam. It is often referred to as visco-elastic polyurethane foam. Depending on the chemicals used and the overall density of the foam, it can be firmer in cooler temperatures and softer in warmer environments. Higher density memory foam will react with body heat and allow it to mold itself to the shape of a warm body within a few minutes. However, a lower density memory foam is pressure-sensitive and will mold more quickly to the shape of the body. The example often used for a demonstration of its properties, is a hand pressed into the foam and then removed, leaving a clear impression of the hand in the foam."

i have been using a memory foam mattress for a couple of years and i would not trade for anything now. The foam is firm and it contours to your body shape giving you equal support all over the length of your body when you lie on it. I can sleep for 12 hours now and not get sore or stiff from lying on a hard mattress. they are the best thing since sex.

Memory foam is made from some sort of space bed material. It forms to your body so that you don't toss and turn at night. Because of tossing and turning you don't get a good nights rest and you can get back pains. Glad that your investment paid off.
