word for word, it means Hanukkah peace, like how shabbat shalom is sabbath peace. In context it means have a peaceful Hanukah.

Decent answers-except one thing. Hanukkah is not a holy day. In fact, it is really a minor Jewish holiday, compared to all the others. It is just that since it comes about Christmas time-more people know about it.

i want to help you. that is why i am writing.shalom in simple terms mean "peace". Hanukkah (with different spelling) means the Jewish holy day - a pleasant one for a change -- is the lighting of 8 candles. plus one -- called "sham-ash" the ninth candle that helps you light the other candles. candles are lit...from dec.15th on. ..being the first day...up to the eight day. why? it is a tradition. historically in the temple -- there was little "oil" to burn a candle and the religious man found some hidden "oil" -- which miraculously lasted 8 days instead of one only. thus the story goes and the tradition repeats itself. now i made the speech for you. hope it helps. happy hanukkah, too. you do not have to be of the jewish religion to enjoy these festive times.

First answer correct. Shalom means "Peace" or "Peace be with you" Hanukkah is it's on word and that what it mean. Like saying Merry Christmas they may say "Christmas Shalom or Shalom Christmas" Though many Jews/Hebrews not recognize Christmas, but, I think the Jews for Jesus do.

Hanukkah is a Jewish holiday that the Jews celebrate instead of Christmas. Shalom means "peace".
