Well, running is a more intensive workout. I have been running for years, and I have long, lean muscles. The very best side effect is that it kick-starts your metabolism, and you're able to eat like a "normal" person and still stay slim.
Walking can help you lose weight. But it will take longer. You'll have to do a lot more walking every day to get the same benefit as running. And it doesn't have the same effect on your metabolism.
Although my Mom and I are the same height, and have the same bone structure, she is almost twice my size. And she walks all day with her job (she's a nurse), whereas I run every second day for an hour.

Running is always better but not always easy for those with bad knees. But it's always better to walk than to not do anything at all. Walking fast at an incline can reap some rewards, also the elliptical trainer. We would have to say running, especially outdoors, is better for weight loss. And to keep motivated, sign up for a few 5Ks to give you something to work towards. Good luck!!

Fast Walking for Burning Fat
I think you should include fast walking into your weight loss program to speed up the burning of excess fat. Fast walking is much better than jogging or running as it produces greater percentage of fat loss.
Some of the major benefits of fast walking are most conventional, easy to perform, do not cause injuries, natural body movement, can be done anywhere and is the best minimum effort exercise for fat loss.
"I can't stress enough how Fast Walking is necessary in every weight loss program."
So go and apply this fast walking activity in your weight loss program

One of the best for weight loss is "push aways" as in push away from the table...I have the same problem...that, and every time my elbow bends at the table my mouth flies open....All joking aside...running will burn more calories, but the impact on the body is worse. Walking is better for low impact but that doesn't mean stroll along.
I am using a bike-riding machine and it gives me a really good work our for cardio...but I am nearly 70 so I have to take it a little easier than you young guys but I don't take it slow either. I have tried the tread mill but didn't like it; my knees are too bad!
It has to be a combination of diet and exercise to get the weight off...and it is harder to take off than to put on....
good luck on your endeavor...

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.
The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.
Get started today!

Running allows you to burn more calories in a smaller amount of time. However, unless you are running on a treadmill, it isn't exactly safe to run due to possible back injuries (uneven surfaces, tripping over debris...). If you are fairly out of shape and just starting an exercise regimin, start with walking and gradually work your way up to running. That is the safest way to do it.

If you don't exercise regularly then walking is better to start off. You can work your way up to fast paced walking, then short times of jogging, then long jogs to running over a period of maybe up to a year. You have to think about what your heart can handle first. Exercise your heart, then the rest of your body.

gradually increase from walking to running as it gets easier for you to do so. Perhaps 2 times a week for 1 or 2 months

Running, but like the others have said you must progress gradually. If there is a running group in your area, join them and they'll often help you set goals (i.e. go from walking 5k to running 5k).

I'd say running. You burn more calories. Remember, you need to burn more calories than what your consuming to lose weight. Try keeping track of the calories you are consuming each day.
