There is a company that I know is illegally trying to collect money from people and they have added negative marks to my credit report for something that never even happened. Is there a credit report repair agency? Most of the ones I have seen are only dealing with consolidating your debt, rather than working to rid your report of any false collections.

There are three credit reporting agencies in the U.S., TransUnion, Experian and Equifax. You will have to contact each one to dispute any incorrect information in your overall credit report.

this link gives you addresses and telephone numbers to contact them. Be prepared for a difficult time getting your credit straightened out, because they don't make it easy for you. There is a new Federal law that allows you to get one free annual credit report a year from all three agencies, and getting it online isn't as easy as it sounds. You have the right to get a free credit report from the credit agency that originally reported the illegal act you mentioned. Anything you do, DO IT IN WRITING! If you talk to them on the phone, keep records of who you talked to, when , what date, what they said, etc.
If you have been denied credit, you have the right to have a free copy of the credit report from that agency.
If you dispute anything in your credit report, check it again in 30 days to see if the reporting agency has done anything about it.
Don't be taken in by companies that claim they can "fix" your credit for you. They can't. Only you can do that. They will charge you a fee for nothing. Good luck!

The company which is reporting the bad information and the credit bureaus it is reporting them to. You should send a letter by certified mail so that you have proof that you sent it. If they continue to falsify the info, they can be fined. Here's a link for the amount you could sue them for and how to get help with it. (Look past the offer at the top of the page.)
