The term "throat cancer" is rather non-descript. Cancer that shows up in a particular part of the body is often referred to by the name of the site where it was found. In my case, I had a lump show up on my neck, with a CT scan showing a growth on the back of my tongue. So, most people would call this "Oral cancer"

The truth is, there could have been MANY different types of cancer that show up there, each with differing treatments and rates of recovery. In my case, the actual TYPE of Cancer was Hodgkin's Disease (Lymphoma) and luckily for me was the most treatable form of cancer there is. If it had been a different type, such as Squamous Cell cancer, I probably wouldn't have a tongue right now even if I where still alive.

The gist of what I'm saying here is that there are MANY types of cancer that could be present in different parts of the body. It is tough to gage symptoms, etc. without knowing what type of cancer it is.
