No, I've never heard of anything *legit* like that before. Basically the 'ATM' network is 'private', thus it's not monitored by law enforcement. The banks don't even monitor it for such 'techniques' to tell if you're being robbed, however I'm sure you've noticed the cameras on all of them.
All I can recommend is do what you are told and give them the money...trying to reverse your pin and get your card taken by the atm machine may anger them to the point they hurt you. If possible, quickly find and escape if it is safe to do so (don't do anything if they can kill you right away). Your safety is #1, then escape.

alot of pin numbers are the same forward and backward
example 3443 ????
I don't know where this myth started and why anyone woujld beleive it, since alot of pins are the same forward and backward
