I went to the shelter to look at the kittens, and in the kitten room was a mom with a toddler and a small baby in a carrier on the floor. There were about 5 kittens running around and jumping ALL over the infant. I hate kids, but my womanly instincts kicked in and I ran to the baby and got the kittens off of her. They were pouncing on her head!! The whole time, the mom just played with the cats and talked to a volunteer and paid NO attention to her infant. Finally she saw a kitten pouncing on her baby's head and she laughed and said "How cute." Is it just me, or is this lady a complete moron!!!!!!! Kittens have sharp little claws and teeth. She paid ZERO attention to that baby. I almost punched her. Am I wrong for being upset by this????

Colleen..........you'd sit back while an animal mauled a baby? You're pretty heartless.

I have two cats that I had since they were kittens. I know for a fact that kittens claws and teeth can hurt. They're just playing, but little kitty claws are SHARP... I can't imagine how one would assume it's ok to let an animal run all over their tiny baby? I love cats, but that wouldn't fly if I had kids.

I'm sorry, but sailortin... you're a complete idiot. I love animals more than anything, but you should never let a cat run on a baby's head. You're the dumbest person alive. Sorry.. I know that might sting.

You are actually very caring and I can't understand how you hate kids. That woman was a complete a$$hole to leave her child with the kittens. Now matter how cute they both are, a kitten can hurt a child. You did the right thing.

I have to agree with u... i have a young daughter & a cat, would never let it jump on her, they can hurt... one suggestion, if u feel like speaking up (u may get told to mind ur own business, but...) just tell the lady, hey, i have cats & know they can potentially harm a baby, u may want to keep the kittens away from the little one... this doesn't mean the mom will pay more attention, some parents are just dumb, but, worth a shot even if it only helps for a little while, you'll probably feel better for trying

I would of told her she *ucks as a mom and does not deserve to have kids....I can't keep my mouth shut in situations that i see wrong. ...I just got a kitten 5 weeks ago and at the time, I went with my 8 year old daughter and my 10 month old son. I put my 10 month old son in his bulky stroller so that kind of thing would not happen . My son still fits in his carrier so i could have easily taken that in but i lugged my stroller out of the trunk and unstrapped my son from his car seat and put him in the stroller. That is what that woman should have done espically going into a shelter. She is obviously a idiot and could care less about her kid. When you are a mother, you do not do them kind of idiotic things. Youre maternal instinct takes over...She obviously lost hers...lol....and I can understand people that just do not like kids...Some people just do not like them. They are hard work!!!! and you really have to have the patience for them. I commend you for not having kids when you do not like them. Some people get pregnant and keep them even when they do not want them and the kids have a *hitty life. I have 2 and i am done...I'd be an idiot to have another one. I want my life back. lol

I think the lady is a moron!! She should have kept a better eye on her child. When my children attended daycare, the provider had a kitten that attacked a 7 month old trying to lick the milk off her face. The cat bit through her lips and the baby had to have stiches on including meds for a bad infection she recieved from the cat!!

OMG! Soe people on here must not have kids! I would never let that happen. I dont think having kitten from an animal shelter around an infant is a good idea let alone letting them run all over them. Gross! I would freak out too...

Absolutely not! You're right, the women is a moron. I have two dog and three cats AND a 9 month old baby. I would never allow that. There's a risk of scratching, biting and introduction to allergies, etc. You have to be very careful with pets and kids, especially when the pets are not yours.

Yeah shes an idiot...I hate when i do that to cause ill see some parent acting stupid and then you gotta speak up...they might not realize what they did wrong to you leave the situation. I think you did the right thing what if the baby is allergic? what if it made the child sick and gave her some disease with there claws...i think you did a good job cause babies cant say or do much either way goodluck to you:)

She probably wasn't thinking of that,.. might have been use to that,.. and maybe those kittens were not prone to useing their claws.

We just get use to that one bad example... that one animal behaveing poorly... and it dictates our reactions to the species as a whole >.<

Your over reacting and if they do get a kitten that babies going to have to learn. When baby doesn't learn kitten is a living thing with emotions and reactions,.. baby kills, harms or abuses kittens. Many people not exposed at a young age properly get these nasty reactions,.. like my mom's boyfriend... he is paranoid all small dogs are out to nip his ankles. The reason being he was isolated from small dogs and not taught properly how to deal with them in his childhood... so he thinks your supposed to kick them around without a reaction,.. so when he finally was around one and kicked it around... he got a reaction he wasn't expecting and now fears and hates the things.

It's better baby learns now then later. And as for people and their fears of Kittens many people believe Cats are out to suck the life out of Babies. *rolls eyes* Maybe you should spend some time with those kittens and other kittens until you learn the different personalities, behaviors,.. and that some NEVER claw a person because of variables.

Then there is the whole pain thrashhold thing. Everyone handles things and different pains and different ammounts of pain differently. What may have been agongizeing, torture, and a frightening experience to you as an infant may be nothing to that baby.

Added: Although I do want to note parents today seem to be increaseingly... incompeteant. They seem to be under this belief their children are not sentient beings and should be dragged around with no complaint as rag dolls... never reactting to things, lacking mind and personality. So although you may be blowing the interaction a little out of porportion,.. the mother was being a little neglectful and distant. There should have been one kitten with the baby at a time, with the mother within 3 feet of her baby and constantly keeping an eye out. The baby shouldn't be left on the floor while the mother's back is turned or anything like that with animals running around. If they are planning to get all the Kittens or atleast 2 kittens then exposer to more then one and seeing how they interact with the infant does make sense,.. but leaveing unattendent in that situation does not.

Added2: cuteenwild1769 if your worried about allergies it's better things went this way. It's better walking into the shelter sets them off, or while the kittens are touching the baby in the shelter,.. or when they step out of the shelter. Otherwise that would not be a happy morning they find the baby with whatever allergic reaction they've been haveing or had if they have passed away. Alot of what seems to happen if you read around is some one would buy the Kittens,.. bring them home,.. be told there are allergies or get mad because they scratch,.. wait a couple weeks just to rant about them and be abusive to them,,.. then toss them outside convinceing people they should have no problem surviveing and whineing they don't want to put any moe money into them then already lost. Read through the Pets/Cats section on Y! Answers ALOT of people are doing that,.. a few have been found offline by people I know... so it's not limited to the people on Y! Answers >.< Human intelligence is plumeting. Let people find out their problems and what they can't handle in the shelter... give nudges and notes but don't expect people to believe you,.. no no... humans have to take the long hard route and see things for themselves.

Yes the lady was a giant moron!!!! The sad part is if you look around at everyone when you are out and about, you will notice just how many parents ignore their children, especially if they are on a cell phone
