It's not that long of a wait; and even if the orthodontist removes the braces and the patient wears a retainer for awhile, teeth almost always settle back into place at least just a TINY bit. The best thing to do would be wait for the 15th and make sure that you wear your retainer.

You might want to rethink your question - Can I get my braces off safely myself? The answer is probably no unless you work in the dental field, so I woud suggest you wait. Another thing that often happens with patients is that their treatments times are adjusted if tooth movement has not been completed in the estimated time. Somtimes braces stay on longer, sometimes they stay on shorter lengths of time. My advise would be to let the professional assess your aligment, occlusion, etc on January 15th and have that perfect smile ready to go for 2007

First of all - removing them yourself is going to hurt like hell, especially the back brackets. Just hang on and wait. Usually they give you a soft plastic device the day you take the braces off to keep your teeth from moving back until you get your retainers. I'm sure you wouldn't want those 2 years to go to waste!

The reason why people who've had braces end back up w/ crooked teeth is they haven't had them long enough. Your crown may look straight, but if your root is not in the correct position, it will cause the crown to reform to the roots position. Thats why you have them for such a long time frame. If you have x-rays, take a look at them, if you notice that the root is perfectly aligned with the crown, then you're good!!!

this is not a good idea. when i was about your age say seventeen
or so i worked as part of a school work program to study different professions, i chose to work with the orthodontist. he made miracles out of peoples teeth. i assisted in the application and removal of steel braces (old days). if you have the steels you should not ever try and remove them yourself because it is possible you can knock a tooth or more out or worse case break
a jaw bone or your upper maxilla. the doctor has a tool that can safely remove them with out any damage to your self. remember
next year you will be beautiful as ever, then flash them pearly and straight whites for next years Christmas pictures.

after the orthodontist takes your braces off you will be given a retainer to wear so your teeth will be trained to stay in place, if you do it yourself, your gums may not be completely healed to hold your teeth in place and you could cause a lot more damage than you started with.
besides, how do you plans on getting the glue off? the orthodontist has to use a small drill to basically sand it off.
good effin luck with that!

They are like super glued to your teeth. How in the world are you going to take them off yourself? You're going to seriously screw your teeth up, may even chip or break a tooth. You made it for 2 Christmas's already, I'm sure you can make another one. Just smile with your mouth closed.

You have already had 1 Christmas with them on, what's 1 more? Also you would feel pretty foolish if you took them off and your ortho was forced to put them back on because you screwed up 2 years of work!
Think about it?

Then don't show your teeth in your christmas pictures. The best things come to those who wait. It's freaking amazing what people whine about these days.
