Is it like that all over, or just on this site or what. I see so many questions of atheist attacking Christians (and vice versa) and though I think neither has the right to do that, I wonder why it is that Christians are attacked the most.
Is it because Christians push there religion on others, because Islamic seem to do that a lot. Is it because many Christians are on this site. Do you think that atheist where other religions are predominate, such as Islam or Hindu. attack those groups.
I do not think that any group should attack the other, but since I know why the Christians and other religions do it, I would like the other story.
Why do atheist want to change people who are religion. Although I do not like it when religious people try to convert other people, I see why. They believe that they have a religious duty to do it. Why, however, do atheist are about rather or not someone believe in god/religion. Is it defensive? What is there to gain?

It may seem that way because there are more Christians here than any other group of believers. I have seen Muslims attacked as well, both by atheists and Christians. And I've seen some hatefulness toward Jews as well -- there's no shortage of people with large opinions and small minds.
I'm atheist and I have never tried to convert another person to atheism. I am against any person trying to convert another. All one should do is give answers when asked, and let other people make their own decisions.

I don't think "attack" is a fair word but, in america, atheists are generally looked down upon since the majority is christian it makes sense if some are a little resentful. I get approached by people preaching religions all the time at school and most of the time it's xtians so I feel a little defensive against them to start with. Also, I feel like I can never get a straight answer from a xtian and then they'll use a bible scripture as "evidence" to back up there claims which is insulting to me. It would be like me quoting harry potter to prove a point.
I think there is more of that on here because it is a safe venue to express views without having to worry about being ostracized, stigmatized, or even attacked. You should really try to put yourself it their shoes it really is like being a minority.

Most of the atheists here on Y!A are from predominantly Christian countries and have Christians pushing their religion on them all the time, so it's natural that they attack Christians more than others... they are more attacked by Christians than by other religions.
I'm an atheist and Christians constantly attack me for that, disrespect my beliefs and try to push their religion on me. I've ONCE experienced something similar from a Muslim (although he was more respectful) and never by any other religious group, although I know quite a lot of people of other faiths. Now, I'm not much into attacking people for their beliefs (although I bite back when harassed), but I can see why some atheists attack Christians. They're asking for it.

"Menopause is punishment for sin." – fundie THAT IS STATING A CHRISTIAN BELIEF. IT IS NOT AN ATTACK! This is where you totally went off the deep end! Are you actually saying that Christian women do not go into menopause??? Are you actually saying that all women are sinners and that's why they go through menopause??? As a woman who recently went through years of menopause, I take great offense at that. What kind of belief is that? And you wonder why SOME atheists get critical? Edit: Okay, I'm Jewish. I've read the Tanakh; I've never read the Old Testament or the New Testament. I do not take everything I read literally and I do not take the Adam and Eve story literally but as a metaphor. You must realize that not every person takes everything it says in the Bible literally.

The reason might be, that Christians and atheist are as far apart as the east is from the west in their beliefs.
As a Christian that has very fundamental beliefs I am very much opposed to atheist, however, this does not give me the liberty to attach or abuse the atheist or any other religion. I am to show them the Love that Christ spoke about and taught and lived by.
Also, I am to try to show them the errors of their way and to lead them to Christ and the One True God. I do this by example not by attacks.
I have no problem with atheist or Islamic or anyone truly seeking answers to honest questions.
Atheist however do not believe in God or gods while a Christian should believe in One God, while most have three gods to believe in. At least the Islam’s believe in one God although in my belief, the wrong God.

I guess Christians get attack the most because of some of our strong views on living by God's command. Too many do try to play God. And a lot offend people who are gay, atheist, Muslim and don't act accordingly to the holy word. We were all made to sin, for God said "All have sinned and fallen short of his glory" of course repent, but this is for us who believe. We can't change people. It's a difference from going out and teaching the word of God and trying to force people to believe what we believe. Plus Christianity is the biggest religion spreaded throughout the world, then it's Islam. But I agree, we should respect where every one comes from and what they believe!

Why is it? Have you looked at history? Have you looked at who the majority is in the U.S. (assuming you are here)? Have you looked at who tries the most to push their beliefs on other people and badger society with being or becoming Christian? People of NO other religious affiliation have EVER come knocking on MY door uninvited, disrespecting my right to have MY beliefs and not be harassed by them. It is only people of some part of Christianity that have done this.
Is that really such a hard concept to figure out? Yeah, they are going to get some words back at them now and then.

I try not to attack, but I do tend to only engage Christians. I think that Islam is every bit as delusional as Christianity, but my biggest concern is what has happened in the U.S. over the last 10-25 years due to the rise in political influence of Christian fundamentalists.
This site is the U.S. Y!A so perhaps others focus on Christianity for the same reasons I do.

No, no, the answer is totally sociocultural. Christianity is the dominant religion in North America and Europe. Most of the internet users are also in North America and Europe. It makes total sense.
In India, the atheists ally with Christianity and Islam against the dominant religion Hinduism. Oh, the irony of it all.
In Muslim countries, atheists have got to be VERY careful because pissed off Muslims are dangerous whackos. But anyway, when given the chance, atheists there attack Islam.
So it totally depends on where you're from.

That's easy! First of all Christianity is the world's largest religion-with over 2 billion people--it's a big taget. Secondly, Christianity is a religion that advocates loving one's enemies. It is harder for Christians to give the resistance that other religions can. Look at Salman Rushdie. He wrote one book with remarks about Islam, and his life was in danger for ten years. I don't know if someone criticized Christianity like that, would he or she have to be afraid like that.
