In context....

Matthew 3:22-30: And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem said, 'He has Beelzebub,' and, 'By the ruler of the demons He casts out demons.' ...'Assuredly, I [Jesus] say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they may utter; but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation;' because they said, 'He has an unclean spirit'" (NKJV, emphasis added / Note: The Pharisees made the same charge in Mat 9:34.).

In Matthew 12:31-32, Jesus says to the Pharisees,

"Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come" (NKJV, emphasis added).

From the context of Christ's statement in Matthew 12:31 & 32, blasphemy of the Holy Spirit appears to be ATTRIBUTING THE WORKS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT TO SATAN--IN OTHER WORDS, CALLING THE HOLY SPIRIT "SATAN." (To see that this is so, read Matthew 12:22-32.) Jesus made this statement AFTER the Pharisees had accused Him of casting out devils by "Beelzebub," or Satan, when He had actually done so by the power of the Holy Spirit.

We aren't allowed to make up just anything we want to believe blasphemy of the Holy Spirit to be! If we go back to the Word of God, we will see that it is a very specific--and very serious--sin!

Royal Racer: You are wrong! This is not a sin that will be committed by Christians! (Why would God allow His Elect to commit the unpardonable sin? That doesn't even make sense! If they did, they couldn't be His Elect, could they?) And how can you say it won't take place until after the Anti-Christ comes, when Christ Himself accused the Pharisees of committing it in His day?

Those that have known God and turn away from Reveled truth,
They now will no longer love God,but Hate Him"That is apostasy-
Awaiting Judgement. "Self" is now god' Romans 1:21-32

'Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit,Is to attribute Work of Holy Spirit ,as work of Devil. Mark 3 :22-30

Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is when you know for surety the reality of God and then turn your back on Him.
This is actual knowledge, not mere faith. When the Holy Spirit speaks to your spirit and confirms truth beyond a shadow of doubt, you gain knowledge of the reality of God. To turn away would be denying and fighting against that which you know to be true.
Very few people have this knowledge in this life. Thus, very few people are in jeopardy of committing the unforgivable sin. God doesn't prove His existence to the world exactly for this reason. However, one day, all who have lived, or will live will know for a surety that God is the Lord over all. At that day, all will have knowledge and any that turn from God will have committed the awful sin of blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. But this is a future event.

"Blasphemy " is vilification or speaking evily of someone.

The Holy Spirit ONLY goes where He is invited or welcome. If people curse Him, He is gone! And when He is gone from someone they cannot understand the promises of God including His plan of salvation.

1 Cor 12:2-3
3 Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.
(from New International Version)

This is closing the door on God and eternal life with Him.

12:10 And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.
12:11 And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say:
12:12 For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.

This only can happen when Anti-christ is here on earth. You are brought up to testify against Him..but it will be the Holy Spirit speaking thru you...IF YOU DONT ALLOW the Holy Spirit to speak thru you,,then thats Blasphemy.

But only the Elect can commit it.

Having tasted upon the heavenly gift, which is spiritual knowledge, being enlightened (by the spirit, the ONE teacher within you) and falling back to ignorance and not living what you know.

For it is impossible to restore again to repentance those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, if they then commit apostasy, since they crucify the Son of God on their own account and hold him up to contempt.. For if we sin deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful prospect of judgment, and a fury of fire which will consume the adversaries." (Heb 6:4-6;10:26-27 RSV). This says there is no more sacrifice for sin, after one deliberately doesn’t apply what they know – or sin when they know.

"If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning. It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them. Of them the proverbs are true: A dog returns to its vomit, and, A sow that is washed goes back to her wallowing in the mud" (2 Pet 2:20-22 NIV)

Many Christians are actually guilty of this today, but they would say otherwise, but these scriptures prove it. Don't expect Christians to know this one, because they created a whole doctrine to side step it, but it is unforgivable.

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is rejection of the mercy of God.

That is the one condition that makes forgiveness impossible.

That is why it is the one unforgivable sin.
