Hi! I hope I can answer your question sufficiently. Generally speaking, Christians are not supposed to do anything that makes them act as fools. They are not supposed to take part in any act that "Pagans" partake of. In the days of Christ heavy drinking was considered a Pagan act. The Bible says that your body is your temple, and you should treat it accordingly, meaning you should treat your body as your holy place. Drinking however, was done by people in the Bible. They drank wine and beer, but the potency was much lower than the alcohols we use today. It is Illegal to drink under the age of twenty one, but if your friend is a as a true Christian as you say, you should know that the Bible states numerous times that the more faith you have in the Lord and God, the more you will be tempted by the devil. The stronger your faith in God, the more the devil tempts you. Look at this way. Those who do not have faith in God are usually already tempted. They partake in acts that the Bible says are not just of Christians and believers. The devil considers to already have them on his side, so little temptation is needed to lure them over. But, those who belong to Christ need temptation in order to be swayed, we are his true prey. The act that your friend committed was just her falling into temptation. In college you are surrounded by temptation. The drugs, sex, and alcohol are all part of the scene, it's hard to escape the temptation, but it is up to her to know when she is being tempted. We are all tempted to do things that God does not want us to do, but the awesome thing is He is a forgiving God, it is okay to falter because He always takes back those who have fallen under temptation back under His wing if you can see the error of your ways. It is human nature to stray and do things unpleasing to God, but it is up to your friend to realize her ways. She is new to college and probably eager to experience things that her peers are experiencing. I am in college and in a sorority that is party heavy, I have to remind myself however, that it is okay to drink as long as I don't disgrace myself publicly by being drunk as my body is my temple and I must treat it accordingly. Don't judge your friend, she will see her ways on her own if her faith is as strong as you say, but remind her nicely to be safe and let her know that you are there for her if she happens to make additional mistakes and need someone to talk to about it. At this point I would then try to advise her to remember her faith if you feel she has forgotten. That is what a true friend would do. Just remember not to judge.
I hope my answer helped you. Sorry for the novel. Its just a long explanation.

No, getting drunk is not what we christians are supposed to do.
The Apostle Paul soke pretty clear on this in Ephesians Chap 5.
15 So be very careful how you live. Do not live like those who are not wise, but live wisely. 16 Use every chance you have for doing good, because these are evil times. 17 So do not be foolish but learn what the Lord wants you to do. 18 Do not be drunk with wine, which will ruin you, but be filled with the Spirit.
Drinking is fine. There has been drinking in the middle eastern culture and even in America for years. Don't get drunk with it. Know your limits and if alcohol is something your body doesn't handle well at all then stay away from it completely.
Hope that helps some

Your use of alcohol depends on YOUR personal inner convictions.....If it is a 'sin' to you and your own consience 'convicts' you, DON'T drink it! DO NOT EVER BASE YOUR DECISIONS ON 'WHAT OTHER PEOPLE DO OR DON'T DO!' To say that another way, your 'religion' should be between you & God, NOT you & your friend & God! Do you NEED alcohol for any reason? Alcohol consumption is NOT a sin. But MANY things done after drinking it are HUGE SINS! Also, SOMEONE ELSE WHO IS 'WATCHING YOU AS THEIR EXAMPLE' might think it is ok to drink after seeing you drink & then end up doing something VERY sinful! Some examples are driving drunk & killing someone or having sex out of marriage & GET PREGNANT! The list goes on & on! You need to re-direct your 'desires' & you will forget about alcohol. Then just maybe your friend who drinks will also quit....Because they were one of those people 'watching you!' Also, not ONE of the people who claim that Jesus drank alcoholic wine can give you an example of Jesus ever being intoxicated!

Drinking is not a sin, after all, didn't Jesus turn water into wine at a party? At least your friend didn't get so drunk that she didn't realize she was in a dangerous situation. I think the problem is that you are jealous of her actually being allowed to have fun!

Umm...I don't agree with you at all. What about people in other countries where the drinking age is 18 (and some don't have drinking ages at all)? Or how about in places like France, where adolecents are often allowed to enjoy a half-glass or so with the dinner (places like these also have lower rates of binge drinking and alcoholism since drinking ins't a "forbidden friut" and so "taboo" )?

It is illegal to drink under 21, but most people do it. And Christians can get drunk, its just most of them think it's very degrading to the whole "Christian values" thing.

Its not a sin to drink. But it is a sin to get drunk. When you get drunk you go alot farther than you would when sober. As a Sgt in the Air Force I've seen alcohol wreck alot of lives.

Well Jesus did turn water into wine, and the people asked why did the master save the best for last, they were pretty smashed I'd say, however I don't think it is wise to get drunk, you may say and do things that you will regret later... Everything in moderation...

Drunkenness should be avoided, so she did sin if she got drunk, and breaking the law is sinful as well, since we're commanded to obey the authorities in the world, as long as they're not telling us to do something against God's Word.

Christians aren't perfect, they are just forgiven. No, she shouldn't be getting drunk, at any age, no less being underage. But many do because they get sucked up into the culture and forget their faith. Perhaps a gentle reminder that it isn't good for her to be doing such things?
