depends how old your car was.... dvla can trace number plates and tell you if the vehicle is still on the road...but they wont tell you where it is as they are bound by the data protection act.

Another place to try is http://www.rac.co.uk/web/vehiclechecks/?ac=PPC-A0010-A0013-A170 but they can only tell you if the vehicle is still in use and they charge a fee.

A good thing to try is post all the details you can remember onto a specific site...say for FORDS or Jags.... then hopefully someone may recognise your car from the info you supply and put you in touch with the owner, but dont bank on it. You may have more success if you can supply the chassis number, http://www.carfax.com/ but the chances of you having bits of paper with that sort of info are small. Hope this helps.

had an idea.... can you remember which company you used to insure the vehicle? maybe they still hold records which includes the chassis number...again its a long shot as companies only keep paperwork so long for audit purposes ....the joys of motoring eh? Good luck

If your in the UK you can check if their still being used on the road by going to the dvla website and enquire about taxing a car ( put in the reg number of the car you want to trace in the enquiry box) and it will then tell you when the last time the car was taxed or if there is a sorn on it . if any are still on the road then you can enquire at dvla ( you have to provide a good reason ) who the owner is . there is a fee for this ( i think it is £6 )
Good luck ............................

If you know the VIN, you could buy a carfax search on it to see where it was most recently titled.
