You might be a crazy cat lady if...

...You resort to subterfuge when talking to people about your cats (i.e., "I have three lovely tortoiseshell cats" but you don't mention the three balck-and-white cats, the four tabbies, the two colorpoints, the six black cats you have.)

...You buy small amounts of cat food and kitty litter from a bunch of different places rather than buying the HUGE amount you really need from one place.

...Your vet gives you a multicat discount without your having to ask.

...You start thinking things like "If all my cats were the same color, I could have a zillion, and nobody outside would ever know since only three ever sit on the windowsill at one time!"

...People know enough about you that boxes of unwanted kittens start showing up on your front porch.

...When you sit down on your favorite chair, the weight of the cats that sit on you and around you equals or exceeds your own weight.

...When you give serious thought about whether shed cat fur could be spun into yarn, because there's so much of it.

...When your only other friends are also people who have lots of cats.

You might be a crazy cat lady.

Well, i would say...over 15 because having that many cats, what are you going to do with them?
Also, are you trying to BECOME a crazy catlady?

I would say anything over three is getting pretty close to the crazy catlady term... but definitely when you start throwing cats at people to keep them off of your property you know you are a crazy catlady

I think Friend is on the right track. If you are not able to spay and neuter the cats you have you are truly "crazy" and doing a great disservice to the cats.

Of course you must be able to provide medical care too when that is needed and keep your house clean.

A person is neither old nor crazy if they can give love and care to any of the needy creatures in our universe - cats, dogs, people.

I am guessing it is not the amount of cats you have, but rather the odor that pervades your house from all the cats and the lack of other human life form (yes I know- cats are almost human-like sometimes.)

So really I think it is a formula... Crazy Cat Lady = 1 lady + 4 (or more) indoor cats -(minus) clean air or a hairless place to sit -(minus) another human companion + a lot of baby cat talk.

It really depends on whether you have the means and the room to take care of them. My Dad has 11 cats the last two were given to him by the vet because they know he has the room (25 acres) and will take of them properly. He has them fixed and vaccinated. I think as long as you do that, you are not considered a crazy cat lady. I think you are person helping to keep animals alive.
