The fact is that people do not follow religion blindly. There are traditions that continue for more than just practical reasons. Perhaps shaping communities is more important today than ancient health codes. If you were to read the Bible, it asks that people be a "separate" people. All societies have taboos that are followed, whether they are religious in nature or not. Culture in and of itself has rules that people follow that make them distinct. Religions are similar, they have rules that may or may not make sense scientifically, but help lead to a more cohesive community.

There is a great problem with blindly following religion or anything else. True christianity is based on a body of evidence found primarily in the Bible. Faith is NOT credulous belief. True faith is based on accurate knowledge. One must study the bible intensely and differentiate between man-made doctrine, man-made traditions, and what the bible actually says. True history and science validate the truth of the Bible, although secular sources are not needed to validate the bible, they often demonstrate the bible's accuracy. There is more involved in being a Christian than just saying "I believe"

They are brainwashed from birth. They are told he knows every thought you think and is always watching you and if you don't believe, you will burn for eternity. They are scared not to believe and are taught that the people who don't are controlled by an evil devil. They think that since there are so many churches and religious people that there must be a god. How could all those people be wrong? They are taught that they are better people because they have 'faith' instead of proof.

Many of the laws in the Old Testament don't need to be followed, such as those regarding cleanliness and sacrifices, however the moral law always applies bc it guides our conduct. However, following this is simple if you allow the Holy Spirit to live through you.

There are blind followers that's true. The bible talks about the blind leading the blind. That said, not all who believe are blind. If you can see the truth then you're not.

IF you are talking about things in the Bible, you are right, they are irrelevant to today...THAT is why the Catholic faith has a pope and priests who relates the meanings of WHAT YOU ARE TAKING LITERALLY FROM THE BIBLE and teach them to relate to us today....You dont take the Bible literally, because yes, its human authors lived back then..and also, you dont take the scientific facts in the BIble as true either...JUST THE SPIRITUAL messages are what you take from the bible!

Agreed. I think some of it is the way people are raised, and some is how their brains are wired.
I asked a Mormon friend of mine "if your mother wasn't a mormon, would you be a mormon now?" and his answer was "probably not".
As time goes by, religion will play less and less a role in our society until it is finally gone. May take several thousand years though.
