This problem only occurs when you have some sort of magnet around a CRT (tube) telivision. Also you especially shouldn't set a speaker on top of a tube tv or monitor.

I have never heard of a battery powered clock creating a problem with a TV. Having said that, it sound like you need to have your set degaussed. This is a process where a magnetic field is wiped over your TV screen, de-magnetizing it. Any service person should be able to provide this service.

This can happen. It has to do with the magnetic field being emitted by the batteries. It can happen with a cable box or a VCR as well.

You'll always have that discoloration now. You can't fix it (at least, my TV repair guy said it's not fixable).

Sorry.

Another urban myth. The discoloration is caused by a magnetic field.
The 2 most common culprits are unshielded, or poorly shielded stereo speakers or magnetic door latches on home entertainment cabinets.
