Well, it could be that you aren't on the road to Damascus and you aren't Saul. Saul thought he was doing God's will and was honest and fervent in trying to kill the Christians. I think perhaps God saw that Saul's heart was honest and he chose this way to enlighten him. Also could be that one has to be seeking to learn of God and not the other way around.

Ah, yes....I waited for the Damascus Road experience, too. Never happened. I didn't realize that I was slowly walking along that road all my life and.... suddenly (at the age of 33) - I was "in Damascus"

God only does such things to people who, after the revelation, will be moved to respond to it, and who could not be moved to believe in another way. This leaves very few people, because many would believe without receiving such a revelation, and many wouldn't believe no matter what (they would think they had a hallucination or something). You probably fall into the second category.
There is someone who had such a revelation and changed his life radically. His name is Savatie Bastovoi.

Paul in spite of the fact that he persecuted Christians was a religious man of his day. Are you a religious person of your day? Paul was not looking for Jesus to strike him down that day. Jesus selected Paul. Jesus has not done that accept for Paul, so you may have a long wait. If Jesus wanted to strike you down you don't have to go to Syria, He could do it while you were in your own house. Perhaps, you should ask Him?

I was 33 when I became a believer. Some are 90 when they believe. Jesus knocks on the door, you have to open the door to let Him in and decide youre going to stop doing things your way and do things His way. He doesnt mess up things like we do.

If you are truly open, He will one day.
However, the way He does it is different for every individual.
You don't have to expect the same experience that Saul had.
