with the assumption that you are indeed a true atheist, when i say "not believing in nothing" i am talking about not believing in a higher being. smh that why asked if you believed in anything, to see if it wasnt material things. duh

I think part of the confusion is that some people think that "belief" and "faith" are synonyms. So, some atheists say that they have no beliefs when they really mean that they don't believe in things for which there is no evidence.
I believe in a lot of things that are not certainly true, but generally there is quite a bit of evidence that is consistent with my beliefs, a relatively simple theory that explains the evidence, and there is no contradictory evidence that requires a complicated set of exceptions for the theory to remain valid.
I believe that the Hebrew Bible is myth. That belief is much more consistent with evidence than the belief that the Hebrew Bible is literally true.
I believe that there is a lot that we don't know about the universe, but that it is probably not necessary that there be supernatural beings in order to account for what we don't know.

And yet we exist. Apparently it's possible to live without god. How about that?
I think I believed in god once, when I was young. I don't remember when I stopped believing; but I know that the world didn't stop on that account. Which is not surprising: If I stopped believing on, say, a Tuesday, then of course the world was unchanged -- because after all, god hadn't existed on Monday, either.

Good answers! We believe in ourselves- what could be better? Being an atheist doesn't mean you don't "believe in anything", it just means you don't believe in a god. The purpose of living? To enjoy, experience, enrich your life and the lives of others. To treat every moment of every day as if it might be the last, and get the most out of it that you can. It's a joyful thing.

I don't need the belief in anything in order to exist, and quite happily.
Life is to be enjoyed, to be lived fully and completely in the company of those one loves; one should live in such fashion so as to leave life with no regrets.
It is just as difficult for those of us who do not believe in a higher power to understand why some people feel they cannot be happy nor fulfilled without believing in mythology.

Well - what's the purpose of your life? You are following someone else's rules. You are doing what they want you to do. You are waiting for them to reward or punish you.
As to beliefs - we believe in people, our country, the human race, the future, the past, hope, love, children, family, marriage, peace, knowledge, understanding, happiness, adventure, growth, morality, ethics ...
We just don't believe in an invisible guy in the sky.
Not really a problem, mate.

I'm happy no matter what i bring into my life. I'm happy in general without having any imaginary friends. i believe to be happy and have my life fulfilled with people i love and care about. fairies are imaginary and all the rest. but its fun to think fairies are real especially if it means making a little girl happy!

Most atheists have a belief system, if we didn't we'd be nihilists. For example, I believe in the good of people and morality, etc. Atheism deals only with not believing in god.

why do i need a religion to exist??????? that is not fair. i am perfectly sane. i have a loving family. i dont think about killing people or anything bad like that. so, just because i am not religious, i am not worthy of living???????? the purpose of living is to enjoy life. if a religion makes you happy, then by all means, find a religion. but it does not make me happy. that is why i am athiest. i dont need an invisible man, or a sacred set of rules, or some stupid book to define me. my mind is unleashed. its free. what about you??

Ah, pity the limits of the theistic imagination. You don't see the beauty in the world that we do, you have to filter it first through myth and fairy tale for it to make any sense. You make the common mistake of thinking that atheists believe in nothing. It suits you to do that, so that you don't have to try extending that limited imagination of yours. But we don't believe in nothing. Think harder.
