I presume they are made out of a long piece of ash using a lathe.
I made a baseball bat once in woodwork using the same method, which broke very soon afterwards when I hit a cricket ball with it.

Believe it or not I actually made one out of a broomstale about 18 years ago & sold it as well. Anyway to your question you need to
1, Take two pieces of good straight wood, your choice but I would recommend Ash for the shaft & ebony for the butt.
2, Then cut one end of each cross ways & diagonally at one end,
3, Take the two pieces and using a good resin bonding glue stick them together
4, Leave them for a few days to set.
5, Using a hand held plane & a lot of patience taper from the butt end to the tip.
6, When you have the desired length & width make sure the cue is straight & perfectly round.
7, Take a ferrul & fit it by making the last 8mm at the tip end of the cue a little thinner, tap the ferrul on the end & glue into place.
8, Fit your desired choice of tip, Blue diamond or Elk master are favoured.
9, Lightly sand & apply a couple of coats of clear varnish.
Thats one way but the easiest would be too go to a cue maker such as john paris, choose your wood & let them do the work.
