Tell them how much God loves them! Tell them that "the hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness" (Proverbs 16:31). Tell them that "the righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing" (Psalm 92:12-14)!

And tell them that, when we know the Lord, we can say, with the Apostle Paul, that "though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal" (II Corinthians 4:16-18)!

Suggestion, the last thing elderly people want is scripture being shoved down their throats.
I am wondering why they need encouragement and for what?
From my experience get them singing ,not hymns.or play an instument.
Or have a quiz nite.
These people will come from varied background and have varying beliefs.
.Is is patronising to assume because they are aged they need your encouragement.
Most will either leave or doze of if you start preaching.
This comes from a wealth of experience of geriatric nursing.

Instead of words and sermons why not really help them. Are you donating money? What about clothes or food? Are you donating anything for them for recreation like say maybe some unused games or puzzles maybe some books.

People in nursing homes don't need good words they need real help.

Tell them that even if they can’t be as active anymore they still have something of great value to offer. This world needs their prayers. Encourage them to become prayer warriors. They can do this from a wheelchair or even a hospital bed. Tell them to please keep praying for the people of this world and for the planet itself.

Also encourage them to talk. Ask them what advice they would give to younger people about living their lives. I’m a big believer in extracting all the wisdom we can from older people while we still have them with us.

That's a tad tough since many of them probably have more life experience than you do. I'd talk about their life journeys and how much they've accomplished and how much they've taught the younger generations. I'd ask them if they're comfortable with the next phase of their journey and ask if they'd like to share their views with you. Then offer spiritual food according to the need instead of a blanket speech that isn't individualized. They'll enjoy it much more if they're participating and sharing instead of simply listening. Best of luck :-)

Hail them with questions, get them thinking about themselves and their beliefs. Never try to convince them with any of ur ideas, just put across what u think is right to believe in.Ask them if they can agree with what u believe, tell them u wanna learn a lot from them, from their life. Tell them about ur life and experiences , and how u actually ended up here tonite speaking before them.

They may be elderly but they're not different than anybody else. Just sing a few songs and tell them the story of Elizabeth and her husband.

Talk about how one day in heaven their bodies wont be frail any more and things like that. Also if you love God then trust in Him to lift you up. Merry Christmas

I always think of life as this: each day that we go through suffering and insecurities brings us one more day closer to seeing God's face. maybe say something about God's assurance to believers and love and mercy........?
