I adopted my dog from a POUND, not a shelter, but a City POUND...
I got him as a little 'very sick' pup. He had bad skin, was all bones, and was starving. They said he was going to die, but I had just lost my DOG "best friend" to liver failure and this little guy maybe I could save... So i adopted him and took him home, he went through a stage of even caughing up worm larve, he had to be dewormed every 2 weeks for about 3 months. He was infested with mites, and fleas. I gave him medicated baths, with good shampoo from the vet, and did everyting I thought right??? But he is now 11months old and, when my family was here for thanksgiving....

My cousin said he started to scream and run around in circles biting him self...and fell to the ground...

Didnt think much of it until, i noticed he could not walk good, and would not eat, I took him to the vet and they said he had BAD Rickets and Muscle spasms.

What should I do. Is there anything I should do. He is on Muscle relaxents/roids

I admit my memory is not what used to be but I have a clue on the rickets. We rescued some pups in much the same shape as yours was, really bad!! Bad people!!
They had rickets due to basically no nutrition for mom, starved before and while pregnant. So pups came out in bad shape. Then they continued to be starved. The bones, muscles just don't form right.

Good thing is that with REALLY good nutrtion and calcium supplements they got over the rickets as such. Now they are much smaller than should be for their breed and are full grown, but healthy and legs did get a lot better.

I wish your vet had taken time to explain more and you should call him about this. He may recommend a certain dry food and ask about the calcium pills!! They aren't cheap but they do work wonders. The pup was very deprived of calcium and other nutrition/vitamins.

You got him this far, bless you, so keep up the good work. Love can cure a whole lot of problems! Thank you for saving a life.

Vitamin C (sodium ascorbate 1/4 teaspoon everyday) for the imune system and Magnesium (200mg 3 tablets medium size dog -400mg 1m for medium size dog) or Dolormite (calcium magenesium 1/4 teaspoon everyday ) for the muscular and nervious system. For worms put a peice of copper pipe that has been hammered flat in one drinking dish and one dish with out copper. The dog will choose the copper as copper is a natural killer for worms but don't rely on this method, it just help to keep worms away make sure you still regularly worm your dogs just in case. These are old bushy remedies that do work!

Ask your vet if there is anything you need to add to his diet. Rickets is typically caused by an imbalance in the substances used to build bone: vitamin D, phosphorus, and calcium. He might have too much phosphorus without enough calcium, or he might need more of both minerals, so it's a good idea to get the vet to evaluate his needs. You could try feeding him milk, or powdered milk, with vitamin D added, but watch to see if it upsets his stomach. Cow's milk tends to be hard to digest. Be sure to consult your veterinarian to see if this is a good idea.

i'd tell them to pass ahead and contact the police. in the period in-between, i'd get a fact out of your vet indicating the indicators of abuse. i'd tell the proprietors that once the police call you, you'd be giving them a fact out of your vet to the police that the canines became abused and that you've stated them to Animal administration. i'd also tell them that you assume them to reimburse you for the fee of remedy that you've given the canines at the same time as you've had him and in the journey that they don't opt to pay up that you will be taking them to small claims courtroom. in the journey that they were abusive to the canines, they'd be then keen to enable issues slide and allow you to keep the canines. i'd also call Animal administration or ASPCA and word in the journey that they could furnish you with any more desirable preparation or help.

Talk to your vet. If he's in pain and the prognosis isn't good, you'll have to make some serious decisions.

As far as medical advice, please, speak directly to your vet and then supplement it with research you do yourself. This isn't a great site to get veterinary advice, and you wouldn't want to do anything to make your dog's condition worse. Talking with your vet is really the only advice I would even feel comfortable giving.
