Don't work a muscle group until the soreness goes away. Generally, that will be 48 hours or so, although some muscle groups (like the legs) may take longer. It's important to do this because you can suffer from overtraining or injury. Remember, it's not lifting that builds muscle. Lifting only tears it down. It's the REST that builds muscle. Get plenty of it.

Give your muscles time to rest. 1-2 days should work. Also, if your dying to work out, than just do another part of your body that's not sore. There are some muscles that you can countinusly work though. Like for example your abs. If you want to work on those, its no problem to work on them every day.
As for others, play it safe and let them rest as well as stretch them out.

Work on opposites, work upper one day, lower the next. But no, you don't have to. Just go easy. I think it works the tenseness out if you workout when you are sore

It sounds like you lifted to your maximum capability.
If work related your going to have to get used to it, Like a couple of weeks down the line you will get used to it, on a day to day basis.
Even if it is work related and you can't skip work: Do Warm up Stretches to get your body limber before starting.
Then afterward: Do cool down stretch exercises even If it is work related then, Take a hot Shower or bath as soon as you can.
Too many mental power freaks get into building muscle without learning the basic warm up stretches, and exercise, and cool down exercises and stretching to keep from suffering from the weight lifting called, "groupies" to the "man, i can do it all by myself' bunch."
Some of actually get muscular, but I found them griping out in the back more often then not about the pain they put up with for not knowing how to keep a balance in their daily routines.
Extend your life by learning basic warm up stretching then exercises and cool down exercises and stretching afterward.
If you are doing workouts for body enhancement featuring biceps, pecs, deltoids and such, One day of exercise, hot shower, or bath. One day off, and try not to over do your work out.
At first body builders only do three days a week. Then after six weeks they add a fourth. They are building up to get to the Contest though; and exercising in a way that harms them is a not on their minds.
One day on, one day off, one day on, One day off, one day on, two days off.
When I was hanging around with a apprentice who was a working to become a professional butcher, after his first day at work he could not hold his brush or comb. The weekend came, when we were getting ready to go out on the town Friday night he couldn't pick up his comb, brush, or toothbrush and had to have help.
If he, or I, had known about cool down exercises and stretching he would have been able to brush his own hair and teeth after work the first two weeks.

Wait at least 2 days per body part. Some soreness won't kill you.

it does matter. When muscles are repairing themselves you should eat proteines (not carbs) and let them rest or you will get injuries
