I have had tons of problems with fleas over the last two months. I have cleaned like crazy, and my chi has been on Advantage (which worked for a week) and Frontline Plus (which doesn't seem to work at all). I am considering Program but I am wondering if I would be able to bathe her. The Program would help with the eggs, etc. The bath would help with the adult fleas. What do you think?

As much as I want?

I've cleaned and washed everything once a week. I don't have carpet! I live in an apartment so I can't control the outside very much. My landlord hired an exterminator once, and I've sprayed on my own as well. I'm tired!

All five of my dogs are on Program. You can wash your dog as normal, as this will have no effect on the Program. Program works internally and sterilizes the fleas as well as the eggs they lay. Should your dog bring new fleas into the mix the Advantage will work as well as the Program.

If you are concerned about chemicals at all, just start putting some yeast as well as garlic in your dog's food. This does work in some cases.

Good luck

Yes, you can bathe her. I might give the vet a call and see if they have any flea bombs. My neighbors moved out of their house in the summer and then came back about 3 weeks later to do some work. When they opened the door and went inside, the fleas swarmed all over them. They got some flea bombs from the vet and that took care of the problem. You can't be at home when you set them off and would have to get your dog out too.

Seems a little extreme, but if it solved the problem it might be worth a try. Could the fleas be coming in from somewhere outside your house? Is the yard infested? You might have to treat the lawn or outside too.

As long as the drops have dried fully, you can bathe her. It usually takes a full day or two for it to all be absorbed. Do NOT use flea shampoo on her while using a topical flea medication such as program. Too much flea medicine can seriously sicken her or even kill her! Just use regular oatmeal dog shampoo and a flea comb to comb out the adults. Squish any live ones with the comb to kill them. If you absolutely have to, bathe her once a week. It's a lot and will dry her skin out so try and give her some skin and coat supplement to help. It can be found at your local pet store. Make sure you are treating your carpets with flea spray, and washing all her blankets and toys in HOT water to kill the adults. Vacuum and put a piece of flea collar in the bag to kill any fleas you suck up.

try this: Adams flea spray inside the home and on the pet, then same day use: Triaziacide spray on the yard, let it dry before letting kids and pets out on it. You'll need to use Adams at 2 week intervals for at least 6-8 weeks. The Triaziacide works up to 2 months and can be purchased at most Co-Op's or Feed Stores (not pet stores, I've never seen it there). You've got a flea infestation and need to kill out the fleas and break the life cycle.

I think it's better for you to ask a vet, than ask people on the net, because we aren't 100% sure. But my aunt's dog had Program once, and we still washed the dog, and nothing happened. So I think it should be okay.
