You may or may not like my answer to this. I do hold a Shodan in TKD, but my main style is Shotokan im a 3rd Dan and Kenpo a 2nd Dan.

TKD is NOT taught properly to MOST americans here. Sure the Koreans are great at it, but their body frames and builds are not like caucasions and we cannot do many of the kicks that the Koreans or asians can do. After years of it you will notice pain and joint swelling from improper stances from your kicks.

This can happen with any style of course, no one is better than the other, there are only great teachers.

Why stick with it? Well wether you actively train or not it will always be stuck with you. You will notice yourself seeing things and being aware of things that before MA you probably took no note too. It is also great to see the next generation grow up and become black belts. Its like raising your own kids, except no diaper changing.

MA can offer great benefits to your health if you stay active. It is great for you heart, muscles. Its is a great over all body work out. Dont over due it or you will injure yourself, but if you are bored where you are, try another style to add to it ,you will find blending styles to make them work for you can be challenging and alot of fun to do.

That seems to be one of the problems with Tae Kwon Do. They teach a sport, not an art. That's why you haven't understood the benefits.

There are many!!! Self discipline, a healthier body, the ability to defend yourself if needed. Just the fact that you have stayed with has shown that you have discipline now think of the fact that every time you go to class you are building stronger lungs, muscles, endurance and adding years to your life.
