A UPS is mainly an inverter with a battery to run it and a charger for the battery.

A UPS (uninterruptible power supply) utilizes an inverter (a decice that rectifies alternating current from the raw mains supply to direct current ), that charges the UPS batteries....When/if the mains fail, the UPS uses it's converter (Device that changes DC to AC ) to provide the equipment with AC.....
