I work at a big organization and I get offended when Christians say merry Christmas.

Pagans still have nightmares because you burned witches at the stake!!!
Atheists have heart attacks from your constant harrassment.
In the best interest of everybody, please say HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

I can understand where you are coming from. As a child my Dad (an atheist) would not allow for my Mother (a Christian) to place lights outside of our home so that we would not be forcing our religious views on others.

Now as an adult I have reverted to Islam. I agree with happy holidays. That covers everyone. Wiccian with the winter soloists, Christians with Christmas, Jews with Hanukkah, Muslims with Eid, and the African holiday of Kwanzaa.

It is a common greeting used in modern culture. I personally am not affiliated with any religion. the things you are referring to occurred long ago before most of our grand parents were born. Why can people accept that times have changed and no one burns witches at the stake anymore and have for generations. That is just one example, the many evils done in the past can at some way be traced to any ones linage. I am not my great grand parents and do not repeat there mistakes. it is a greeting meant to signify have a joyous season and happiness to all. People could get just as easily offended is someone says good day to them when there son was just killed in a war the same day. take it as what it is and stop complaining use your time and resources to do something productive instead of creating more of a gap because you cant let the past go and get on with your life.

what the heck...
Umm, i dont think it matters if you say merry christmas..I hate to tell you but I have PAGAN and WICCAN friends that I hang out with each year and we will watch Christmas movies, sing Christmas songs, and shock, make Christmas cookies ::gasp!::
Whether anyone likes a holiday or not its there...You cant change the calender dude...I wouldnt get offended for someone saying happy chanaukah at chanaukah, or happy quanza at quanza, Christmas doesnt even really involve Christ for many people (which is strange in my opinion) but the fact remains, you need to lighten up. Maybe you should focus on what Christmas time is.
A time to care and support eachother, to spread the message of love, and all that other sappy stuff.
And plus, most of the population is Christian so no...its not rude, if someone is offended one can apologize but why would you be such a scrooge to ruin someones fun and good mood?

Why happy holidays? Some people are not celebrating holidays. Why not get to know your co-workers and say Merry Christmas to Christians, Happy Hanukkah to Jews, or to others like Muslims or atheists who are not celebrating, just a "have a nice day."

Pagans still have nightmares...
Atheists have heart attacks...
Boy! their beliefs sure don't make very strong people out of them!!!
You get offended? You are vfery easily offended, my friend. If a Muslim greets me with his holiday, or a hindu with his, it wouldn't bother me at all. I would say "Thank you, and the same to you". "Merry Christmas" doesn't mean "you must believe in Christ". It just means the holiday is there, whether you like it or not, but I hope you have a good time" and I think an atheist can have as good a time on Christmas day as on June 21st. - If he knows how to enjoy himself, that is.
To get offended by a well-intentioned greeting is the silliest thing I can imagine.
It's as silly as Christians who get upset if you say "happy holidays".

You seem to have missed the point. Happy Holidays means nothing. Which holiday are you wishing happy? Christians celebrate the birth of Christ at Christmas. If you aren't a Christian, why would you celebrate.
Jesus is the reason for the season.
If you want a happy holiday, you will have to decide just what it is you are celebrating.

I don't agree. Christmas is the federal holiday. If you want a winter solstice day, then petition for one. I will sign it and then I will say what? Happy Yule?. Over 3/4 of this country are Christian. Most people are not offended by the greeting.

Merry Christmas.

First of all, you should not be a Chaplain, do something you believe in! If Merry Christmas offends you is it because you as ashamed of the Gospel. You know it is the only power to save mankind and Jesus is the only way to the Father in Heaven. After all Jesus ask us to be merry or joyful all the time, not to worry or be anxious.
In fact Jesus is the reason for this season and every season {-:
