Unless you already have the job offer (written) in your hand, and the company has done their homework and proved they "need the expert from away", you WON'T get a work visa.

If you're in the country as a specialist, and your paycheck is being paid by a non-Canadian firm, you don't actually need a work visa. But you do need written proof of both above points. The letter must also include expected duration of stay.

This is the same criteria for Canadians going to work in the US, by the way ...

There are several websites on immigration and visas to different countries.
Or... if you can, contact the Canadian Consulate near where you live. They are situated is many major cities of wherever you live. Perhaps through them, the Canadian Embassy, most likely in your country's capital city. Since 9-11 and the latest threats to Canada, the reins are being tightened here, too.
