However, does the boxer think hes a boston and the boston think hes a boxer? My boston loves chasing boxers at the dog park. and my boxer loves little dogs like bostons. i know silly question. But curious.

It isn't thought at this time that dogs have self awareness, but scientists are studying more all the time. It could be your Boxer relates to the dog he sees most often, which is the Boston. And vice versa. Dogs have exhibited something referred to as "Breed recognition", they will gravitate to dogs of their own breed given the chance.

I think your question was a good question, and someday if you decide to study dog behavior, you might have the start of a good Thesis. :-)

i doubt that they think they are the other but since that is all they know. the boxer is used to playing with little dogs like the boston and vice versa so that is just want they prefer at least they get along and play nice

Any of my Newfs can pick another Newf out of a crowd of dogs. And the black perfer blacks and NOT the Landseers. My first Newf had a best pal that was a Dalmation. After we moved, he always tried to play with any Dalmation he ever got near.
