I prefer cocktail peanuts... which ARE roasted... but with a coating of oil. Farrell's (ice cream parlor, California 1970' & 80's) used cocktail peanuts...

Interestingly, Baskin-Robbins (USA ice cream parlor) used ALMONDS rather than peanuts on their sundaes and banana splits. This seems to be out of concern for those with peanut allergies.

When I worked at Farrell's Ice Cream Parlours (many years ago) we used Spanish Peanuts for our Tin Roof sundaes and Nutty Nutty sundaes (the latter also had diced almonds).

dry roasted peanuts are usually used.i used to work in an ice cream parlor.
