This has always been something I was curious about. I'm not going to knock you about your faith in god. I really don't claim to know that god does or doesn't exist. However, if I was more religious I would want to be sure that I had all the facts. Now the bible most Christians use today is completely different then the original text. Large amounts of information have been cut over the years by various groups/people. Many of things have been edited and changed. So I guess I have two main questions.

If the original bible is the true word of god, wouldn't he be a little angry/annoyed that people have messed with his book?

How many of you realize that the book you are using is not the true bible?

Roche Cop -You really are an idiot. You prove my point and then try to act smart about it. My point was that many scriptures were arbitrarily thrown out and edited. Like the Gospel of Mary, the Gospel of Joseph and The Gospel of Judas that you so kindly mentioned. I know about the Council of Nicea as it was one of the major bible events that I was referring too in my original question. I kept the question simple and to the point so that people like you would avoid splitting hairs on the particulars. I have read a few books on the subject and I watched the “Banned from the Bible” episode on the history channel that you quoted nearly word for word. Thanks for helping to prove my point, moron.

Actually, the Christian Scriptures were assembled during the Council of Nicea in 325 A.D, when they voted as to whether Jesus was a man or a God. Originally there were about 48 gospels but Emperor Constantine and his associates whittled them down to the 4 you know, Matthew, Mark Luke and John. They discarded the rest including the Gospel of Mary, the Gospel of Joseph and, yes, The Gospel of Judas.

Now, being such a learned and well-versed person as you claim you are, I'm sure you'd like to dispute this but, just once in a while, you might try picking up a book because a mind is a terrible thing to waste, even yours.

Try:

THE JESUS PAPERS - Michael Baigent
THE LOST GOSPEL - Herbert Krosney
BLOODLINE OF THE HOLY GRAIL - Laurence Gardner

Well even the so called ancient texts used to translate the scriptures are not the original texts and are just a copy, of a copy of a copy many times over and even these ancient texts do not agree with each other. The modern bible is translated according to the council of Nicea in 336 I think and the doctrines decided by a group of human men have determined which manuscripts to use and how to interpret those said texts.

When I was a Christian I used to wonder about the different sides of the same story in the gospels. I understand that these errors are minor, but you would think an all knowing God who is guiding these men like Peter, John, Luke and Mark would make sure they got it all the same. Another thing that amazed me as I studied from the available study bibles that have commentaries on each verse and have introductions to each book like the New International Study bible does, these introductions tell how scholars determine who wrote it and I was amazed to find that there is evidence that John who authored the Gospel of John who supposedly was with Jesus those three years reallied on the Gospel of Mark for his version. What? Why would an Apostle rely on kid who was just a kid and the nephew of Barnabas who wrote his gospel from listening to his uncle and Paul and possibly the doctor Luke who was with Paul and Barnabas?

Those of you who are arguing that there is evidence that the "current" bible is so close to the "original" bible need to research more. The "current" bible is the SELECTED works that the old church deemed "important enough" or "close enough to their IDEALS" which explains why soooooooooo many other books never made it into THE BIBLE. Check out the Gnostic books, these are all books that were written at the time of, earlier than, and later than the Christians King James Version Bible. There is a book that was written by Mary Madgelan herself that clarifies alot of things from the Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John scriptures, but the Christians didn't think it was "important" enough. That actually is NO "original" Bible! It was just a bunch of books, letters, etc written and each religion picking and choosing what they accepted. That is why so many religions actually worship the SAME God and don't even realize it because they selected different books and prophets to live by (ie, the Koran, Muhammaed, Jesus, Moses, etc) I love watching them all fight over which GOD is the true god*LOL*

The DEAD SEA SCROLLS proved just how accurate the Bible is.

The Bible is not 100% accurate but, there are some things to take into consideration before declaring the Bible an invalid source to believe in. You ask a lot of good questions.

There are some problems with the Bible and errors. Please remember, the Old Testament was passed down by oral tradition before the technology of writing was available. Compared to the Quran which existed long after the technology for writing was invented. So, yes there are errors.

Secondly, there are different ways to interpret based upon the "literary forms" of writers. Depending whether it is in a historical context, prophetic, poetry, or some other type of literary form. I believe Jesus Christ IS THE WORD of God. The Bible is written by people inspired by God.

If you took a Bible course and discovered what SCRIPTURAL TYPOLOGY is you would be amazed. If you knew what SALVATION HISTORY was in the Bible you would understand. If you recognized DIVINE AUTHORITY you would know that there has to be someone in authority to reveal the "secret" truths God has given. If you research all those phrases you will begin a journey of discovery that will last a life time.

We have a saying in Catholicism: the New Testament is hidden in the Old and the Old is revealed in the New. There are many mysteries contained in the Bible that I have been amazed at discovering for the past 20 years and there is a whole lot more. St. Jerome said: Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ. The whole Bible is about our SALVATION: Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ fulfilled over 300 prophesies in the Old Testament about the Messiah you can discover 50 of them in cd's IT IS WRITTEN.

WHEN YOU HAVE BEGUN TO DISCOVER THESE THINGS YOU WILL KNOW IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO HAVE BEEN WRITTEN BY MAN. Jesus (a historical figure along with others in the Bible that are not fictitional characters) by fulfilling just 50 prophesies makes the odds of doing that 10X135 power! An astronomical figure that could not have been achieved by human means.

The thing that might shock you and others is that SATAN used scripture to tempt Jesus. So, too Satan will use scripture to trip us up from following the true faith. This is why there has to be DIVINE AUTHORITY that passes from the Old Testament to APOSTOLIC SUCCESSION in the New Testament. This is why someone cannot Authoritatively pick up a Bible and correctly interpret it nor can there be millions of interpretors to HOLY SCRIPTURE. There can only be one!

Jesus Christ only lived 33 years, never went more than 30 miles from his home, never wrote a book, never was on tv, never made a cd or any multimedia source and YET

-- Jesus Christ has influenced the world more than any person;

-- Jesus Christ's existence separates history (ac or bc);

-- Jesus Christ has more books written about him than any person in history;

-- Jesus Christ is the Ruler of the largest religion in the world;

-- Jesus Christ had 11 apostles and numerous martyrs die excruciating deaths believing in the Messiah, the Son of God;

-- Jesus Christ as the promised messiah fulfilled over 300 prophesies in the Old Testament. Just fulfilling 50 makes the odds of doing so 10X135 power, an astronomical number. No human being or religious leader's existence was fortold with such clarity, never fulfilled so many prophesies about them, not even Moses, Muhammad (pbuh), Buddha, Confuscious or anyone!

In short, Jesus Christ has accomplished things NO OTHER HUMAN BEING HAS DONE in the entire history of mankind. If anyone thinks Jesus Christ is JUST A GOOD TEACHER they are very unrealistic by making such a huge understatement.

Yes I do. That's why I searched for all of the books that were missing and read as many as I could find. And yes He is angry about it. However, He does say that in the end times all will be revealed so hopefully we'll know soon enough! I'm reading the Book of Jubiliees right now.

The heart of it can be summed up in the following.

Have Faith that God is who he says he his.

Trust God to do what he says he will.

Obey God.

Look to God with awe and profound reverence, realizing that he is greater than anything we can comprehend.

Love God.

Love our fellow man and treat as we would like to be treated.

Believe that Christ is the son of God who took human form and suffered so that all who chose to repent could have salvation.

Which of those points do you think were edited? Are we perhaps supposed to only have faith in God sometimes or believe that Christ died for a few of us?

There is a non-fiction book out called, "The Alphabet Versus The Goddess," by Leonard Shlain. Its mostly about Christianity and the bible, and I would encourage any Christian to read it, as it does have sources cited in the back. Very interesting and very relevant to your question.

I did a thesis in Introduction to the New Testament, spent hundreds of hours working on it. That meant going into all the arguments for and against the authenticity of the New Testament as we now have it. The proof is overwhelming in favour of what we know have.
Now, I wonder how much investigation you have done on it? Or did someone send you a "forward" by email? lol.

Seriously, god didn't give permission? That's weird, I heard he was really involved with the editing process, which is why it took so long for the new edition to come out.
