At my daugthers elementary the teacher ask her students to buy a present and $$ for their Christmas Party .
Girls to buy a gift for a girl & the boys for boys but not to exceed $5.00 plus she asked for $2.00 for Pizza & drinks.. Wich I thinl it is reasonable, because there are parents that can't afford to give much at least they will be having fun that day!!!
The problem was that one of the mother said that she will not allowed her son to get a cheap present because he will not give a cheap present .So she told the teacher to remove him from the list that he will not even go that day!!!! I feel bad because the kid was happy to participate and is fine it will be just for fun so they can have a good moment they are in kinder they don't know about $$$ & expensive or cheap toys they are just kids !!!! What do you think about this ???

Well, some people aren't into the spirit of things as much others... People who focus on the money issue, instead of the spirit of giving are only cheating themselves and those around them. It is too bad that the little boy has to suffer for his mother's attitude. Kids dont' care how much a gift costs... my preschoolers love stuff from the dollar store!!! They are just excited to be a part of the celebration and unwrap something. Then again, maybe she just said it as an excuse for really not having the $7... you never know. At our school we always make sure that the note says "optional" so parents who may not be able to afford it can opt out without feeling like they have to make excuses. But, we always tell them that their child can participate anyway... and buy some extra gifts just in case.

Aye Carumba. Parents are the worst sometimes.

I do feel bad for the boy for missing out and getting a bad lesson in materialism. However, there isnt anything you can do about it. I would just ignore it when it comes to your daughter, hopefully this comment wasnt made in front of the children so they wont know the difference and that boy just wont be there that day. I wouldnt address it because your daughter is only 5-6 and like you said she doesnt understand about money and its not worth getting into it over something another parent has done.

I can't believe that, that is insane. Is this woman so rich that she can't go to the cheap section of toys and buy one? That is so ridiculous! This woman has serious issues, that she won't let her own son have fun, just because if she gives a present her reputation is at stake? She has some screws loose, and is setting her child up for failure, because you have to learn cooperation from your parents, and he is going to be asking for hundreds of dollars worth of presents and she'll be sorry then.

I think it is unfair that the mother tries to put words into the little kids mouth. You're right if the kid wants to go to the party than let him. The mother should know that he is just a kid and doen't understand the concept of money yet! It is very upseting.

That's horrible, its just fun for the kids, all children are usually excited to do things like that. I feel sorry for the boy, he's going to grow up only needing and wanting expensive things, and he'll learn you can't always have the best.

I think it is a very sad problem that this Mother cannot allow her son to enjoy a little party with his friends without putting a dollar on the price of gifts.Poor little rich boy.

I feel bad for the boy. A toy is a toy at that age doesnt matter the price. My 9 year old daughters "boyfriend" (I use quotation marks because us moms know that at 9 years old they arent really going out they just hang out together at recess and lunch:) got her a little turtle (her fav animal) that cost him .25 cents. She adores that gift and treats it like it is a diamond necklace!

I think she(the mother of the boy) is a rich little stuck up b*tch who needs to get a clue!
I am from a wealthy family and we never acted like that. There's no excuse for it. What a b*tch! Poor kid!

I feel bad for that kid, his mother is horrible... and he will be missing out on alot of stuff in the world.....

Its all about giving and receiving, if she doesn't show her kid how to give, then he will grow up to be as selfish as she is!!!!

uuugh that's horrible, it's not like kids and teens don't get enough bad influences about materilism, parents should set a better example the that.
