Is this a good present for a 13-year-old for Christmas? He says he wants it 'cause it's the new "thing" at school and all his friends have it.. he said they either have a Sidekick or a Chocolate phone.. but yeah, is this a good present? Ooh, and he doesn't want it on Christmas, he wants it by this week lol.

I see kids with Cell Phones all the time and I wonder "why in gods name does a kid that young need a phone?" I didnt need a phone until now and I'm in college. Next year theres going to be a new "thing" at school and he's gonna want that. I tink its best to teach him that he shouldnt always get what he wants just because its the new cool toy.

I know there is a huge debate about kids having a cell phone but as a mom I can understand why you'd want your kids to have one. I wouldnt buy him a brannew phone - get a cheap one with prepaid minutes and set his limit each month. If he runs out of minutes make him wait till the next month to get more. In CA it is state law that students are allowed to have cell phones at school but the schools decide if the students must keep the phone off and hidden from view. If he wants the phone right now: tell him Santa doesnt deliver early and leave it at that. Im sure he doesnt believe in santa at 13 but I think thats a clever thing to say to a kid who wants gifts early :)

make him wait till christmas! sidekicks are cool, but i think chocolate is better... it comes in colors too(green, red, white, black). if you can afford it, those are great phones!
but most importantly, MAKE HIM WAIT UNTIL CHRISTMAS! dont let him be greedy, but if you do get it to him before hand, make sure he knows that that is a christmas present, so he wont expect tons more stuff.

well i dont know whne i was 13 years old i asked my parents for a phone and they go tit form me..so after a while i never used that much and know its like in my backpack and i barely use it .. so wait untill there in high school cuz thats when there going to use it the most..........i guess its a good present but i dont know about the age..so its really ur choice...but its a good present..i wish i couild go it for christmas!!!!!!!

You know your son so if you think he is responsable enough for one go right ahead, it seems a little selfish of him to demand it right this minute though so if you do get it I would make him wait and if he flips out over it take it back and get him the cheapest ugliest phone you can find.

what your child wants and what he gets needs to be 2 different things.. it seems to me like he just wants to follow trends he needs to learn to be a eader not a follower... ig you think he desearves it and he was good this year, got good grades and so on and u can afford it than yes get it for hm... but dont let him get it until christmas... make him think he isnt getting it!!!thats what my parents used to do!!
it seems like in your household hes the parent and your the child he tells u wat he wants and u do it..it shouldnt be like that u need to take some demand over him!
get it if u want..if u think its a good gift than it must be after all he is your son and u know him better than us...
thin about some of these things
a)in a year will he still be as into it as he is now?
b)does he desearve something like that
c)ifi get him something with that much value he wont get alot of other things,so i could do that or get him lots of things that are cheaper and tell him to wait until his bday for the sidekick3!

I'm 13 and that is what I'm asking for for christmas. I want mine because we just moved and it will make it easier to stay in touch with my friends. I'm also responsible though and have never broken or lost my cellphone.

If you get your 13-year-old kid a sidekick, then you are SPOILING HIM. If he already has a cell phone, tell him to keep that one. He doesn't need a new one.

No. He has no need for it, and thirteen year olds have no business with a cell phone, since most will lose it.
