i was near suicidal several years ago. depression was literally consuming me. my marriage was falling apart, my eldest sister had passed away, by job was going down the crapper... life just wasn't good. but when i started taking st johns wort, my outlook started improving. it didn't change what was going on in my life, but it helped me deal with things better. it also improved other aspects of my life as well. so, i say go for it!! since it's holistic, you don't have to worry about all sorts of odd chemical side effects.

St John Wort is all natural. It's nothing like paxil but everything, be it herbs or drugs , affects everyone differently. St johns wort takes about 3 months to take effect.
I have been on several different meds over the years. Sometimes they don't work and other times they do but eventually they lose their effect. I change them every so often. St Johns Wort did nothing for me. If you're willing to wait that long for some type of relief try it, if not ask your doctor for something different.

You have started something that you don't know about? Wouldn't be wise to study up on St. John's Wort before you start taking it? St. John's wort has been used for centuries to treat mental disorders and nerve pain. In ancient times, herbalists wrote about its use as a sedative and a treatment for malaria, as well as a balm for wounds, burns, and insect bites. Today, St. John's wort is used by some for depression, anxiety, and/or sleep disorders.

St. John's wort is the most widely used. Many studies on the effectiveness of St. John's wort have been performed. One review of the studies determined that St. John's wort is superior to placebo and comparable to conventional antidepressants.

My mother and myself both use St.John's wort. It works really well. We were both on prozac for a while *me about two years, my mother almost 8* and it just numbed us. The St.Johns wort gives us more energy and helps not feel so anxious and angry.
I totally reccomend St.Johns wort over antidepresents 100 %
Do a search on yahoo for it and read some stuff....
For me it worked great, for my mother it worked great, and I know a couple of other people who took it and it worked really well for them.
BUT, you should talk to your doctor first, though, as a safety thing! I hoped I helped you some! <3

i've done research on it and read that it was good in mild cases of depression but it's not conclusive. though there are many people who say that it's helped them, it could just be a placebo effect. you can try it out and see if it works for you, make sure you read all the warnings and directions on the bottle, as you should with all over the counter medicines. i really doubt that anything could go wrong from taking it. you shouldn't replace your therapy with it however, and if you have any concerns about it, ask your therapist.
good luck.
