The recipe I have doesn't say what to preheat my oven to. What is a good temperature to use?

350F, almost always for cookies!

Usually pre heating an oven for cookies is done at a setting of 350, also place cookies on the top rack well baking to prevent them from burning.

to preheat oven for 10minutes 350-375 then bake for 10-12
to preheat oven for minutes 400-425 then turn heat down to 350 and bake for 9-11 minutes

I agree with everyone else. All the cookies I make require the oven to be preheated to 350F. Middle rack! Or if you are doing 2 trays at once, be sure to rotate them and switch racks half way through.

Everyone else is right 350 is good except when making shortbread, then set it for 275.

in case you omit the baking powder your cookies will fail to upward thrust and tutor troublesome and heavy. this is the powder that causes to reaction to make the cookies upward thrust gentle and stay accurate.
