received 12 month vaccination incl kennel cough last week also is chipped in that area if its relevant. Noticed yesterday large mass of hard tissue swollen ,definately not a tick, otherwise she is happy and her usual self, i have prodded and poked and it hasnt bothered her. Have rang the vet to ask if its a pssible delayed reaction to the vaccine but was told probably not this late and to just monitor for a few days. Have searched the net for hours on end with no results. Would be aprrox the size of a tennis ball. Appreciate any help in determining wot this could be. Thanks

my dog had the same thing my advice would be 2 take her 2 the vet and get it checked for my dog it turned out just 2 be a fatty mass that would do him no harm he lived with this for 14years without a problem b4 he died around 2months ago hope this puts your mind at ease.

Since the mass appeared post-vaccination and microchipping, it is most likely related to this. There are occasional reactions to the chipping, which was actually my first instinct before I even read the rest of your question.

It is most likely NOT a malignant tumor or other cancer since it appeared so rapidly. This is one of the major problems with asking advice on this site - overreactive undereducated children are doing much of the answering.

If your vet isn't concerned, but you are, then contact a new vet. A tennis ball sized swelling is typically beyond a 'normal' reaction of week old vaccinations. My dog would be back in the vet so fast. . .

Good luck and I hope it's nothing major. : )

Yikes! It's likely some inflammation due to a mild allergic reaction to the vaccine... or it could be an abscess from the vaccine. It's not common but sometimes it does happen. Definitely get your vet to treat or find another one. Ignoring it won't make it go away or get any better and it's probably uncomfortable to your dog.

Nobody can answer this question only a Vet. It is sad for your mum but she could be on the cruel side, unintentionally, cos dog could be in pain - and being old doesnt help. Surgery i would think is out of the question - if old she might not survive the anaesthetic? But to be kind to the dog please take her to Vet but you must warn Mum that she will most probably be put to sleep. This could be wrong and i sincerely hope it is but be prepared and get to vet

I would take her to the vet. One of my Boston Terriers had a questionable lump on her back, and I was concerned. When the vet saw her, she was concerned that it might be cancer. She removed the mass, and luckily it was a fungus that caused the mass. It is always better to be safe than sorry. If this mass is cancer, then you can catch it early and with treatment, your girl should be great company for many years to come.

Sounds like a localized vaccine reaction. Double check with your vet though. They can actually cause cancer in years to come.

this could be a large cyst or pocket of pus. take the dog to the vet. if your vet thinks this is not something the animal needs seen for contact another vet until you find some one to see the dog. don't push on it or it could become sore and more swollen.

I hear of reactions to microchipping - a swelling that takes a while to go down, as you've described - though this seems larger than normal. I think you may want to go back to the vet. Good luck!
