Good thing you noticed this. Remember, the ears are very close to the brain, there is almost a direct connection, which is why infections of his ears could turn ugly quickly.

You probably should wash your hands and any surfaces the black stuff touches because it could very well be ear mite fecal matter. Ear mite fecal matter has the appearance of coffee-grounds.

The vet will prescribe medicine you put in his ears, the vet will also clean them out really well. But you do need a vet visit; I know, it's expensive.

Sounds like ear mites.

I wouldn't trust over the counter medications because there are too many things that can go wrong. He may have a bad reaction from something not specifically prescribed for his ears. A vet is in order here. Good luck and I hope he feels better soon...

Definitely needs a trip to the vet. He probably has an ear infection. Your vet needs to do a cytology to determine what is causing the ear infection so he can prescribe a treatment. He may also want to clean the ears out really well so the treatment can work faster. Don't wait! Chronic ear infections can cause scarring of the ar canal and ear drum resulting in hearing loss or leading to inner ear infections that are much more difficult to treat. If your dog has recurrent ear infections they may be caused by allergies. Your vet can discuss this with you more in depth.

Your dog probably has an ear infection. Labradors are prone to them due to the their fondness for water, plus having floppy ears that make it hard to air out the ears.

Your dog needs to go to the vet. The vet can recommend some things to keep your dog from getting another ear infection in addition to giving you medicine to treat the existing one.

Remember, any time your lab goes swimming or even just has a bath, clean out his ears to keep them dry.

You need to take your dog to the vet and have them check him for ear mites. Thats what it sounds like to me, and I have two dogs who get them at least once a year. Your dog could also have an ear infection or if he has gotten water in his ears maybe from when you bathed him, could be a yeast infection. Sounds ugly I know but it does happen. Best get him to the vet and nip it in the bud before it becomes worse. Good Luck!

It sounds like ear mites, my two dogs had them once before. I would advise going to see your vet who can check to make sure that this is what it is - otherwise you can buy drops from a pet store and try these. The good news according to my vet is that once they've had them once they generally don't get them again.

take the dog to a vet. it's natural for dirt to collect in an animal's ears. our vet told us to uses a peroxide solution to clean the dogs ears. your dog should be checked for infection before you go putting stuff in the ear canal. best of luck and hope your dog's ok.
