Sometimes when I see a scary movie, I just want to remove it from my brain. When my friends show me "inappropraite" things, I would like to forget those as well... but sometimes I need a light to guide me. Can someone be my candle? (Meaning, to answer my question so I can get out of the dark, and into the light)

I have to deal with this constantly, having OCD, and mix that with a panic disorder + unrational terror when faced with something gorey, you have to find a way to forget what you've seen. What works best for me is to just completely block out all thoughts of the disturbing image/words. As soon as they even threaten to occur immediately start thinking of something else.
To reinforce this instant distraction, wear a rubberband on your wirst and snap it if the thought starts to reoccur. It's hard at first, but it really works wonders if you can get a hold of it. I managed to pretty repress the thoughts and compulsive actions for two or three years by doing this.

Rather than resisting, which will just keep it coming up... accept it, and then let go 'cause there's no longer a problem.
