This doubt has been haunting me for years. My older son was diagnosed with ADHD at an early age. I remember when I was pregnant of him my doctor prescribing codeine for back pain. Could I have coused him developing ADHD by taking those pills?

I have three children with this condition and as for the answers IE you caused it are wrong, and as for it running in the family not all cases. This condition is form within our children for many reasons, but there are causes which can make it worse. These being food and drink, junk food is the worse thing ever so to fizzy pop. We as parents and doctors are discovering reason for cause and effect, modern living brings many side effects, but what ever the child and what ever the condition they have they all bring joy as well as heartache, but i personally wouldn't change my children they are proving to be well adjusted and great in the home and will en-devour to be productive later in live as they are doing so well. For all parents with children of special needs know that success takes time and effort. Like all children but please if you wish to investigate this further research through doctors. Bit please know that its not your fault, after all whatever we take we take from the advice of doctors not ourselves. Take care.

TV does no longer intent ADD or ADHD. ADD and ADHD are matters that academics built. Today's academics have on no account been taught find out how to educate traditional/lively/rambunctious youngsters. When the youngster acts 'traditional' - the trainer freaks out and needs the mom and dad positioned the youngster on therapy. The academics select the youngster to don't have any mind role and take a seat in a chair all day like a rainy noodle. The medical professionals are in on it too on the grounds that they acquire kick backs for each prescription they write. My neighbor's medication; NO JUNK FOODS, NO MEDICATIONS AND NO SWEETS. Changing the nutrition - converted his habits. The junk meals and goodies have been effecting his habits and the academics attempted to label him with ADD or ADHD - NOT!!!!!!!!!!

Research suggests that genetics play a significant role in the development of ADHD and most of the time, if a child has ADHD at least one of the parents will have it to. Many parents discover that they have had ADHD all along when their child begins to exhibit the symptoms and they research the disorder more extensively.

No the codeine did not cause the adhd. It runs in families. Your husband, brother, dad, or maybe even you may have it, however it does not interfere with your daily activities or relationships. I took nothing while pregnant with my son and he has it. Now that I look at my husband and his family I realize they ALL have it. It's not the end of the world. As kids grow up they learn to cope better and manage it better. My kid is now 14 and in all honors classes in High School.

I don't know for certain, not being a doctor or anything, but I can tell you that I had two very goal oriented, parents who gave me every educational advantage they could and I am still ADHD. I think it is only a fluke in the way a person's mind handles multiple tasks or stimuli. They are simply overawed, in a sense, by any new activity or impulse.

I honestly don't know...but you shouldn't feel guilty either way. Having ADHD might be hard at times...but if we all had perfect physical and mental health and development....life would just be boring. My brother is mentally and physically handicapped and I don't think I'd have it any other way. He's had surgeries before and sometimes I wish I could better understand what he wants but I think he's perfect the way he is. I don't think you should feel guilty.

Well, if paying attention is a problem, doesn't it make sense to cultivate attention.
ADHD is a condition of modern living, we're not inherently like this; and in fact it isn't a disorder... perhaps a dis - ease, not a disorder.
