There was this guy I liked a while back, and I always felt so bad whenever he didn't pay attention to me. Well, he was mean to me - he didn't give me the kind of attention I wanted. he still says really mean things about me. Even if he's on the other side of the room talking about a time I failed at something, I hear it and my heart sinks. I don't like him anymore, but I have 2 questions.
1) How can I cope whenever he does say things like that, and I just wanna disappear?
2) Why do we like people even though they treat us horribly?
Thanks!

1) just ignore him. he's a jerk.
2)we like people who treat us badly because if you have a low self esteem a part of you wants to be bossed around and told what to do. we want what we know we can't have. you just need to get a high self esteem and get over him and find someone new.

People in a relationship like this, usually has a very low self esteem. They think "I deserve to be treated like this". Get some counseling, you will be doing yourself and huge favor.

Probably because some women have low self esteem and don't think they deserve better or maybe they think the person will change for them.
