that a high school was ordered to stop singing Christmas carols where an Olympic ice skater was performimg because she was half Jewish. Does anyone else think that was ridiculous? I totally agreed with the Rabbi in Seattle for wanting a menorah to be displayed, he just wanted his holiday to be recognized. I also agree with saying Happy Holidays because as a Christian I would think it's unfair if everyone said Happy Hanakua, but it seems like to me that people for some reason are just looking for reasons to start with the Jewish community. Do you agree? By the way Happy Hanakua

I know the skater had nothing to do with it, it just seems like this is the second incidence within a few weeks where something has happened & they try & make the Jewish person look bad when it's really not their fault

The skater in question felt much the same way you do. She had nothing to do with stopping the singing. Actually she had been enjoying it.
A low level staffer, trying to somehow cater to a celeberty acted on her own accord and asked the choir to stop. NOBODY invoved agreed with or supported her decision. Frankly I would not want to be her right now. (Seeing as she will likely have one hell of a conversation with her boss...)

What Christmas carols were they singing? If it was something secular like "Rudolph" or "Silver Bells" then I think people are being just WAAAAAAAAAY too freaking hypersensitive.
If on the other hand it was "O Little Town of Bethlehem" or "O Holy Night" or "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" then yeah, I'd question the wisdom of including them in a public program. Unless you were also including songs like "Maoz Tzur" or "Chanukkah, Oh Channukah".

What does "half Jewish" mean? Religion is something you are, or you aren't, isn't it? I know that it's used to mean one parent is Jewish, but there are policies to deal with that, which religion the kid will follow. I think normally kids of mixed-faith marriages traditionally take on the religion of the same-sex parent.
Further, when did we become so politically correct? Time was, the majority ruled, and if you weren't part of it, you sucked it up, and dealt with it. We need to quit being so damned accommodating.

I'm sure the skater herself had nothing to do with it. Someone pointed out that she is Jewish and someone else said, gee, let's not sing Christmas carols because she's Jewish. It was just someone being polite. No one ORDERED anything. They just thought, huh, Jewish - xmas carols, let's not sing the xmas carols anymore.

What a nasty idea, if any of you really had any of those disorders I doubt you would be laughing at that sick Card or whatever it was supposed to be. I do have a Sense of Humour to save you asking I just don't think it is right to be 'funny' at Others misfortune.

This is what happens when the "melting pot" truly becomes one. We are one of the first societies to actually try to make widely varying creeds live together peacefully.
This is an example of the growing pains.

If she is half Jewish, maybe they should only sing half the carol? I doubt she cared.
