The Israelites were forbidden to tattoo themselves {Leviticus 19 verse 28}, because pagans engaged in the practice as part of religious rituals. Christians are not under 'The law' {Galatians 3 verse 13}, and tattoos no longer have religious overtones, so it wouldn't necessarily be a sin any more than having your ears pierced would be, but you would still need to give serious consideration to whether it's right for you.

I don't think it is at all. I'm a Christian and I've got a tatoo and so does my husband.
On saying that though, I would never have chosen an image such as a devil or even a crucifix as I can't stand them as tatoos.
I think it also depends on when you get them done. If you say you are a Christian and then go out and get SATAN or a naked woman tatooed on your body somewhere I'd start having some questions but if you already have these and then become a Christian later I can't see a problem with it.

Leviticus 19:28 "And you must not make cuts in your flesh for a deceased soul, and you must not put a tattoo marking upon yourselves. I am Jehovah." Plain and simple. :)
Somebody further up said not to listen to anyone quoting from the old testament because were no longer under the law is missing the point. Just because it's no longer a law doesnt mean we can't learn from it.. If it was useless, why would it be in the Bible today?

Listen... people will say "It's inthe Bible not to get tattoos" They're right. In Leviticus 19 it says not to mark your bodies with tattoos. Well the verse before that says not to cut the sides of your hair or your beard.... and i know plenty of Christians who are clean shaven... so I guess they're picking and choosing.
ahem... here' the verse.
Passage Leviticus 19:28:
28 " 'Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD.

It is not a sin, but is it something you want to have on you in another 30 years, is it an image that is wholesome. Don't listen to the ones that are giving you scriptures out of the old testament, they apply only to those that were under the law within the old covenant.

where on earth in the bible does it say 'thou shalt not get a tattoo' ?!?!?!?!?! of course it's not a sin against Christianity or god !!!!!!!! there are plenty of people who have religious tattoos. getting a tattoo is a way of expressing your beliefs and personality. i fail to see how it could be considered an sin.

i'm pagan, yet so a techniques as i comprehend this is nice. each and anybody who say's this is forbidden costs leviticus 19;28, about reducing marks on your dermis for the useless-this is anybodys interpretation yet to me that is a caution hostile to at least one-up-manship or 'preserving with the jone's' i.e reducing your self to tutor tht your human being grief is more advantageous than absolutely everyone else's grief. The verse above, forbids reducing of the hair and beard, and wearing outfits of mixed fibers, and the e book itself condones homicide, violence, slavery and the subjegation of ladies persons. in the journey that your body is a 'temple' for the spirit, then it is your position even as you're in this earth, and also you've were given the right to positioned slightly artwork on the walls, if it makes you experience at residing house, at your position of residing. besides, i do not imagine this is forbidden, and no matter if that is, I doubt this is an evictable offence, more advantageous like only loosing slightly your deposite

No, it is not a sin. But it is not a smart thing to do. The vast majority of those who get a tattoo, regret it later. Its kinda like a permanent record that everyone can see. It tells them that at least once in your life you were not very bright.

I do not know if it is a sin against christianity, but all I know is that it is against İslam. And perhaps you do not know many things are sins in both Islam and Christianity.Because they are both derived from the same source.
