Congratulations on your wise decision. Start exercising like jogging, home video(Billy Blanks-rough-tough) or (Denise Austin-sweet-not so hard) or join the gym. Have Fun! Good Luck!

God Bless!

Making the decision to stop smoking is the first and most important step towards becoming a non smoker. Well done you will succeed.

Don't do it with the patch though. None of the nicotine replacement therapies (patch, gum, injections) are a good idea because they replace the nicotine in your body when you want to get rid of it. They are supposed to wean you off it gently but all they do is prolong the agony.

If you simply stop smoking you will have some withdrawal symptoms for 2 or 3 days until the nicotine has got out of your system and after that it's plain sailing. Now that you've decided to stop you will find it surprisingly easy to do it.

It might sound odd but hypnosis has been found to be 3 times more effective at stopping people smoking than the replacement therapy methods. See this website for information http://gcsteve.freshquit.hop.clickbank.net

Good for you not wanting to be that kind of influence for your children!! That's awesome!!

That's why I quit. I started in my early teens, quit several times, then quit successfully in my late 20's. My sister has several small children and I didn't want them to know me as a smoker. It's so horrible for you, and they admire me and talk like me and dress like me. I knew what was next.

I used the patch the final time. It REALLY helped. You still have cravings. You will off and on forever. But you learn to master the drug.

You will no longer be thinking about whether or not you have enough to last through the night, if the restaurant will be non-smoking, who's car you can smoke in... all that stupid stuff that bogs down your good time.

Also, there are studies that men that don't have nicotene in their systems have healthier children Which still blows me away. Why more people just don't know that.

Things you can do to help you keep busy? Make a list of reasons you're quitting. Write them out, and refer to them for strength.

Drink lots of water, it flushes out your system and keeps your hands and mouth busy.

Also, when a craving hits hard (and it happens a lot, for about a year, then a LOT less frequently after that) keep yourself busy for 20 minutes or so. Take a shower, cook a meal, start a journal so your future kids can see how hard it is to quit if you ever catch them smoking.

And just remind yourself that you will live longer. You'll be there for your child's graduation, for your 30th wedding anniversary.

It's hard. It's such a demanding and controlling drug. But you're TOO strong to be ordered around by a cheap drug... you have bigger plans.

oh yeah, I quit smoking 4 years ago, next month.

I'm 40 & smoked since I was 13. Just quit in March (YAY) I went to a hyptnotist. i believed it would work for me (it was ALL about the habit, not the nicotine). But I really think its about really wanting to. You seem to have made up your mind. Replace the habit with healthy ones (3 drinks of water, 3 deep breaths, a walk around the block, etc) DO NOT chew on straws, suckers..etc. Youshould be fine with the patch. YOU'LL DO GREAT!!
