Adults in the OT that converted professed faith in God, repented, and were circumcised. Same concept across the board today.

Babies were also circumcised as being God's "property". Did that just go away entirely?

Circumcision was not the sign that a Jewish baby or proselyte is "God's property," it was the sign that he had entered into God's Covenant. Under the New Covenant brought by Jesus Christ, Christians (whether Jew or gentile) are not required to circumcise their sons, nor are converts required to be circumcised. This is because, under the New Covenant, we have a better understanding of what circumcision really means.

Under the New Covenant, physical circumcision is now understood to be a "shadow" or "type" of the sign of God's true Covenant with human kind.

God tells Abraham at Genesis 17:10-11 that circumcision is "a sign of the covenant between Me and you." This sign is painful when first performed, permanent and carried out on a private part of the body.

In Deut. 10:16, Deut, 30:6 and Jer. 4:4, God tells us it is His true wish for us to "take away the foreskins of your hearts." How can this be done? Jeremiah 31:31 tells us it is God's intention to make a "New Covenant" among His believers, beginning with the Jews. This necessitates another kind of circumcision.

Col. 2:11 tells us: "In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ ..." The spirit is also a private, hidden part within us; by cutting off our spiritual foreskins, both men and women experience pain, but it is this cutting that proves we have entered into God's New Covenant. So, for those under the New Covenant, physical circumcision is NOT required, although some still do for allegedly hygienic or asthetic reasons.

Baptism, on the other hand, is a symbol of our rebirth. Prior to being Born Again, we are spiritual dead. After being reborn, we are truly alive. Total immersion in water, a type of Jewish mikvah or ritual bath, symbolizes the cleansing of our sins and rebirth.

I hope this helps. Peace.

Colossians 2:11

This circumcision was made without hands. That means that it was not done by man and it was not done in the physical. Paul is referring to spiritual circumcision of the heart. This verse goes on to explain that this circumcision was the putting off the body of the sins of the flesh. The sins of our heart were cut away and discarded through the sacrifice of Christ in a similar way that the foreskin is removed from a male. The physical act of circumcision was a picture of this spiritual circumcision which is now a reality in every born-again believer

NO!! Circumcision is necessary and beneficial, and nothing can replace it.

Now some information on circumcision. Keep reading...

CIRCUMCISION IS VERY BENEFICIAL, its cleaner and several research bodies have concluded that circumcised men have less risk of contracting STD's such as AIDS-HIV or herpes.

Uncircumcised penises are difficult to keep clean, and more prone to infections and penile cancer, studies have shown.
A circumcised penis is naturally clean and virtually free from urinary infection. You will not have to worry again with careful washing of your penis.

Is it NOT true that the AAP (American Academy of Paediatrics) does not recommend circumcision. They simply say they leave the decision to parents. But recently, and specially after the New Zealand study, the AAP has been discussing if it may be necessary to change their policy and recommend circumcision to all newborns as they used to do, so in the future we may see that the AAP advocates again circumcision.
Have a look at: http://www.baby-health.net/articles/381.html

About STD's:

As I said, several studies carried out by prestigious research bodies have concluded that uncircumcised penises are more prone to infections and contraction of STD's, including AIDS-HIV. Circumcised men have been proved to be up to seven times less likely to be infected than those who are uncircumcised. Have a look at this site: http://icuxbridge.icnetwork.co.uk/news/tm_objectid=14095142&method=full&siteid=53340&headline=-circumcision-protects-against-aids--name_page.html

As for women, studies also show that circumcision also protects female partners from AIDS-HIV and other STD's. Browse this article: http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/Press_releases/2006/02_08_06.html

About sensitivity of a circumcised penis:

No medical or physiological study has proved that circumcision reduces sensitivity, opposed to common belief. It is completely FALSE that circumcision reduces penis sensitivity. The American Academy of Paediatrics (AAP) confirms this on their web site; have a look at: http://www.aap.org/pubed/zzzjzmemh4c.htm

Circumcision is an easy and nowadays *painless* procedure, which has many benefits, and virtually no risks.
Circumcision is NOT an amputation. Circumcision is NOT comparable at all to female circumcision, which is something completely different.

Circumcision rates are INCREASING nowadays, both in the United States and overseas. Many African and South American countries with little circumcision tradition are starting to promote the procedure to help to reduce the AIDS-HIV infection rates.

Finally, this site has a lot of useful and *unbiased* information. Make sure you have a good look: http://www.circinfo.net

No.
The 'OT' as the asker calls it, scriptural 'OT' is the law of Moses; not Genesis-Malachi. See 2 Tim. 3:16-17, Rev. 22:18-19 as a starter. For more details email me soon.
The children of Israel were baptized (2 Cor. 10:2).

baptism did replace circumcision in the roman catholic church, confirmation then replaces the bar mitzvah when a person of an edge of reason confirms what took place at their baptism. you mightg find something of interest at americancatholic.com and scripturecatholic.com.
