What do you think of a person who smokes 30+ marlboro light cigarettes a day, and you know they will never quit. Would you like a person any less just because they smoke.

Also would you choose not to date someone because of their smoking?

I would not hate someone because they smoke. I might not spend much time around them. I had to quit three years ago because of health reasons. I would not date anyone who is smoking.

I used to be a smoker. Just before I quit I was easily smoking more than 30 times a day- and not lights. My entire life revolved around cigarettes. Work was "the time between smoke breaks". The route I chose to walk or drive around town was chosen to facilitate smoking, or buyting smokes, etc. My chest would burn sometimes- and not when I was doing anything taxing; just for no reason. I was 28 years old.

When I quit, I had to change my entire life. My wife (smoker) and I had split up, and I had started seeing a girl who wasn't a smoker. I was just getting ready to move into a new apartment, had just started a new job, and then unexpectedly this girl's grandfather died of lung cancer. She couldn't look at a cigarette without thinking about her beloved grandpa. They had been quite close. I was grateful that everything else in my life made the opportunity possible- I quit.

The cravings were like drowning. Sure I had moved into an apartment that didn't smell like smoke, had all (ALL) my clothes either dry cleaned or chemically deodorized (or thrown away), I started a new job where I could build a reputation as a non-smoker, and I had the support of my new girlfriend. But being without a cigarette was like being held under water. I felt as though if I didn't get a cigarette immediately that I would die of suffocation. My heart would pound and my demeanor became quite insane. I thought the fresh air would kill me.

Oh, any reasonable person knows it's quite the opposite, but to a smoker nicotine is MORE important than oxygen.

I have now been a non-smoker for nearly two years. My life is incalculably better in so many ways. And I still have cravings occasionally- but they're not bad like they used to be.

So to get to your question- what do I think of heavy smokers? I feel sorry for them, in a way. I know how much of their lives it consumes, and I know how hard it is to kick. Would I like someone less because they smoke? No way. I have a lot of good friends who are smokers. I know they'd rather not be smokers, but they are, and I know how hard it is to quit. I can't hold that against them.

Would I date a smoker? Not anymore. I know that if I were dating a smoker that I would be tempted to smoke again myself. I live in Las Vegas- I have enough temptation without bringing it home with me on the weekends.

I know that the only way I was able to quit was by changing my entire life- not just by trying to remove the cigarettes. I also know that my friends and loved ones were very supportive of the change, and for their help I am truly grateful.

It wouldn't make me like them any less, but it sure would make me not want to be around them at all. There's alot of people that I like but don't necessarily want to spend time with. As far as choosing not to date someone because of their smoking? Definitely yes! I cannot stand the smell of smoke. And even though I don't smoke, I would smell like I do all the time and I can't handle that. Then eventually, everything I own would stink and, well, that's just disgusting. Personally, I think that smokers are very selfish people. They cause the people around them to have to breathe in the stink, to smell nasty, their kids stink and get sick all the time, alot of kids have asthma problems caused by living in a smokers home, the list is endless. But do they care? NO! They would rather allow a little white stick control their life, then to provide a healthy environment for their family. They would rather feel good than for their kids to feel good. And to know all the cancer risks and still smoke only shows that you could care less whether or not your family has you around to enjoy life with. You deny your kids the right to have a mother and/or father, your grandkids to have a grandparent, etc...It's just really quite sad that people choose death over life on purpose. I guess their friends and families don't mean very much to them. What a sad way to live.

I quit smoking after 20+ years end of Sept. I tried everything through the years. I always failed (like some people fail their diets)
I was addicted to nicotine(bad drug). I have alot of compassion on smokers bc I been there. It is terrible bondage.
A pastor that has a gift in healing & deliverance prayed for me and Jesus delivered me from nicotene. Just like that! At a blink. I was in AWE! Nothing had ever worked before. As soon as I would stress about something, I'd be lighting. Not anymore! Praise the Lord. I don't suffer from it at all nor do I crave it. All desires for nicotene were instantly turned off like a light switch! :)

Smoking is not from God.It is satanic. You slowly kill yourself plus you pay $ for it.

If I were you I would get your friend some help. If he has a willing desire to quit, all is possible with God!
You need Faith in Jesus! www.doersoftheword.org has a healing and deliverence ministry. I pray the best!

I think smokers are not terribly bright, but smoking is there own choice. So long as I'm not forced to inhale it I don't care.

I would never date a smoker. If someone I was dating started I'd dump them in a heart-beat.

I think they are gross. No I wouldn't stop being buddies with someone who smokes (I bet half my friends from last yr. smoke.) but they wouldn't get to hang out with me very much. Yes I wouldn't date someone who smokes because second-hand smoking is worse then just smoking itself. Besides they would really stink and I wouldn't enjoy the time very much because I would get sick.

You'll find most smokers are considerate of others IF you politely request. BUT, beware if you're rude & a bore. It becomes tiresome listening to all the health nuts - you live your own life & let me live mine.
Myself, I find overpowering perfume to be bothersome.
